Where are the unisex baby clothes?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and haven't started shopping yet. I was having a look online at what is available and had a little look in the shops. I cannot believe that I hadn't noticed but there is very little choice aside blue and pink.

There's one website I found for unisex baby clothes and it's all monochrome. MONOCHROME.
The local facebook baby clothes group sometimes has batches of newborn stuff for sale and it's all either girl or boy stuff.
The shop had a few items in yellow (under "girl" wut?) and hardly anything in green. The rest: blue and pink.

I don't get it. They're BABIES, why can't they just have a section for cardigans, babygros, blouses etc, in all different colours. Why are we expected to develop their personal brand straight out of the womb? Why is their gender the most important fact about them?

Has it always been like this? I'm also getting a lot of pressure from all comers to find out the gender at my next scan. What's the rush? Once it comes out, everyone can start saying how she is x because she's a girl or y because he's a boy, they don't need to start now, do they?

I'm just going to raid charity shops for the yellow and green newborn stuff. I just thought shopping for a newborn was going to be less polarised.

I keep saying if I designed baby clothes it'd be all unisex.

Boots had some mint green packs of vests and grows the other week.

See how you feel once your baby is born. You may think differently.

Polarn O Pyret is the brand NapQueen is referring too - it's lovely but a bit pricey! See also Maxomorra, Smafolk

Go to a big mothercare. We've got a big one near us and there is a blue and pink section, but also a white/cream/ beige section too. Not sure about bright unisex stuff but they definitely had neutral.

Next has some brightly coloured gender neutral stuff and John Lewis some more monochrome but nice stuff but I was expecting more yellows and greens etc!

I've found plenty in Marks & Spencer, Next, TK Maxx and Mother care

Scandi brands like Polarn, Maxomorra, Alba baby. They are expensive but have good resale value too.

This annoys me too. Was looking at baby clothes in Tesco the other day hoping to maybe pick up some baby grows but there was nothing neutral. A cute dinosaur set but I would say that's more for boys.

On my third, it's even worse now I think than 4 years ago. Apparently the percentage of people who don't find out is very low now, so there is only a small market.

When my boy was tiny he mainly wore white babygros - hand-me-downs from a friend's sister's daughter, incidentally.

I got some nice brightly coloured ones in the Aldi baby event, too. BHS were good too (got some gorgeous sleep suits with dinosaurs on and another set with stars on) but obviously that may no longer be an option.

I'm having the same problem. All I've bought so far are some plain white vests and babygros.
Everything is either blue or pink.

Will check out those shops next time I'm in the UK, loveulots, boomies, thisis, stars and elle White babygros might just be the way forward for the first 3 months!

Starman and Weebarra I'm in Scandinavia, so I was a bit surprised to find the shops were so BOYS DRESS LIKE THIS and GIRLS DRESS LIKE THAT because the Scandies like to make out like they solved sexism.

I'm going to decorate the nursery with dinosaurs because they're definitely unisex. I'm pretty sure there used to be girl dinosaurs, that documentary "The Land Before Time" had some IIRC. Buy the dinosaur stuff, Thecats!

Once the baby outgrows the newborn stuff, Mycrane, maybe I'll want to theme the child one way or the other, and I'm not going to chuck gifts away for being too stereotypical.

Always, sounds about right. When I ask people why I should find out at the scan "So you know what sort of clothes to buy". We're being tricked, this isn't about having cute babies, this is about not being able to hand down stuff to your next child 50% of the time.

There's a lovely website called childrensalon if you sort it alphabetically it has a large range from reasonably priced up to the very top designer stuff. Unfortunately they classify most things by gender but if you trawl through and ignore what it says is the gender there's a lot of neutral stuff there. I bought A LOT for my new DGC gender unknown who I hope to meet in the next few hours when my poor DD1 finally gives birth... When it all came by post she and her OH opened it with me on FaceTime and she was thrilled with all of to so I thoroughly recommend it. For my DGS I like Trotters (also online) but not sure how much unisex they have.

I hate all the blue and pink. I still favour clothes not in these colours now she's a toddler. We bought a lot of yellow and white clothes when she was a baby. Mothercare had some but we bought most from mamas and papas. They have lovely neutral vests and babygros. Not the cheapest but there are often offers and the quality is lovely. Next have some good sets too but they were too long and thin for our little porker!
