Lower right abdomen pain advice - early pregnancy

Hi all

I found out about 2 weeks ago that I'm pregnant, this is my first pregnancy, so i'm still new and learning! I am 6-7 weeks now.
Today when I woke up I have been experiencing a bit of pain, in my right lower abdomen, quite close to my hip.. slightly worried.

It's not an unbearable pain and i've had no bleeding with it.
(about 4-5 days ago I had a small amount of brown in discharge) but nothing since.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had had anything similar? I am thinking if I still have it by lunch i'll call my GP. But grateful for anyone else's experiences with this type of twinge.

TIA x

Hello, pulling and stretching pains are all quite normal, many ladies also say they have period type cramping.
The advice is usually, as long as you are not in severe pain that lasts and/or bleeding, everything should be just fine.
Keep an eye on it and track it if need be to be more accurate when telling the doc Flowers

Hi Jess, I don't mean to worry you so please don't panic yet, but the pain you describe could be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. Just to be on the safe side you should call your doctor and explain your symptoms so that they can make a decision. It could just be a pulled muscle, things moving around inside or you slept in a funny position but if it is an ectopic it can be serious and it needs to be checked out.

LadyLynsey and Sparrow thank you ladies for your advice, it has stopped since coming to work. It lasted around an hour and have not had pain since.
I've decided to still call the doctor or the early pregnancy unit near to me.

Sparrow that thought did go through my mind that it could be a symptom for an ectopic pregnancy as it was just one sided pain. Keeping calm and fingers crossed it's ok! I've been reading up it could be just movement like you mentioned but better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks both for your advice. Flowers

Hi there. I have got the same, I am only approx 4 weeks.

I had an ectopic pregnancy two years ago and yes, the pain tends to be on one side. I also had dark brown, almost black, discharge. And I was very faint. I KNEW something was wrong almost from when I found out I was pregnant. I called the maternity unit directly rather than the GP. They will do a vaginal scan to see if the embryo is where it should be.

It's highly likely that your pain is normal stretching! But good to check. I have to be scanned early in every pregnancy since the ectopic.

Could be a Corpus Luteal cyst which is normal from releasing the egg, some people feel then I've had pain both pregnancy with mine.

You need to get it checked out incase eptopic pregnancy as if it is it can be very dangerous , they will scan you .

If it's a Cyst they will see it, the body reabsorbs them so don't worry if it is one.

Go call your EPU and discuss with them

I should also add that I have had very similar pain before from gas! so it's not always a huge concern!

I also thought of ectopic but was wary of saying it straight away. On the subject though, I had early scans with my two eldest kids due to one sided pains and both were fine.
Let us know how you get on jess

Thanks all for your messages!

I have spoken to a friend who recently had a baby and she felt this too. It's still worth checking though! It's good to know i'm not alone with certain twinges.

Calling my GP on my lunch break, will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again ladies Flowers
