Pregnancy

18 weeks and still losing weight

Good morning all,

Just after a quick bit of reassurance I guess.

I'm nearly 18 weeks with my first. In Feb I was 160lb, am now 152lb. I know it's not a massive weight loss and it's so common to lose weight in your first trimester but I've dropped another 2lb this week.

I'm not really that sick, just not really eating an awful lot.

My tummy has grown and I have a nice little bump starting to show and heard the heartbeat last week.

Anyone else in the same boat with the weight loss?

Yep, only gained now at 34 weeks. Still less than when I was first measured. Midwife isn't bothered as bump is 34 weeks.

Were you especially sick weezie? Do you feel that you eat enough?

I've been suffering from low blood pressure and have been feeling pretty weak and tired in the mornings. I guess I'll find out if baby is growing well at my scan at the end of the month.

I know I'm not massively light at 10 1/2 stone but for me, 10st is about my lower limit before I start looking ill. I wasn't expecting to be thinking about this while being in my second trimester

I wasn't very sick but couldn't eat much, lost about 9lbs until week 20 when I levelled out. Gained from week 25.

Not really, I'm just not massively interested in food these days which is very unlike me. I've logged my calories on my fitness pal a couple of times to show dh that he shouldn't worry but have only eaten about 800 calories a day

152lb is 10 stone 12lb. 12lb is a good buffer before you reach a weight that is too low for you. Your baby will take whatever it needs but you need to look after yourself. Try eating 5 or 6 smaller meals a day. When pregnant with dd I would eat one slice of toast for breakfast, then another slice 1.5 hours later. Then half a sandwich at break followed by the other half at lunch. I had awful acid reflux so it helped.

I was very similar - not really sick but often queasy and no appetite at all; highly unlike my normal obese self! But baby kept hitting the required growth each time and because I was eating so little I was super careful to have a good diet. MWs were always happy. Had glucose test at 28w which showed up I was deficient in B12 - had an injection which cured me overnight! Still gave birth 2kg lighter than conception, and DD was a lovely 7lb 3

It sounds like I shouldn't worry and should just carry on as I am. Thankyou all for the reassurance. I just need some accurate scales now as I've been told that mine weigh heavy. I'm sticking to those though as it's consistent measuring

I was classed as obese when pregnant with DC2 (I was over 17st) I only gained 2lb the entire pregnancy though I ate a lot. MW was never bothered, I wasn't really very sick after 9 weeks either.

Don't worry if your scales read differently to the MWs as long as yours shows the same gains as hers.

Don't bother with the scales - MW never weighed during routine appointments. It's all about fundal height, AKA bump size. At 18w you are only really at the start of antenatal care - I didn't even have notes at that point! There's so little info on weightloss compared to excess gain online but you will be fine

My bump.measured consistently under last time. They still didn't worry.
