Bloody show to labour

Indulge me MN'ers!

40+4, 1 sweep down at 40+1 (was 1cm and stretchy), lots of lower back ache, twinges and pains but nothing remotely patterened. Lost lots of mucus plug over the last week but finally just seen the 'bloody show', plenty of it too.

What to expect next..... Contractions, waters breaking... And how long could it be?

What was your experience? I know there is no right answer but feeling optimistic!! Feel free to come crush this with some realism please!

I've had three DC, expecting DC4 now. I've never had a show! So god knows!

workingMummy2305 · 23/07/2016 18:36

Hiya ,
I lost my mucus plug and had a bloody show during the day and then went into labour that night! So good luck x

Laura05 · 23/07/2016 19:10

I've never had a bloody show so I honestly couldn't tell you what to expect next. I was contractions, waters breaking, baby.

With DS my contractions started with cramping at 2.20pm followed straight away with contractions every 5mins, waters broke when contractions were every 2mins. Had to phone ambulance as by the time my DH had got the bags and DD in the car, I was going nowhere! Contractions every 20-30secs when ambulance arrived and once in hospital 3 pushes and there was DS at 4.23pm.

Here's hoping yours is just as quick Smile

SusanAndBinkyRideForth · 23/07/2016 19:12

I've only had a bloody show with dd2. She arrived 2 weeks later Grin. Sorry

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 23/07/2016 19:12

My plug went a week before birth. I was hyped up for a week. Eventually I went 2 weeks over but had a spontaneous and very simple delivery.
Good luck Flowers

Highlove · 23/07/2016 19:54

Was induced a week after losing mine with DD. Sorry!

dramalamma · 23/07/2016 19:56

Have had two this pregnancy - (yes it bloody regenerates!!) a week apart and now three weeks since the first one and still waiting for labour. It's a piece of string question I'm afraid!

MyBreadIsEggy · 23/07/2016 20:02

When I had my Dd 15 months ago, I noticed a blob of really jelly-like mucus in my knickers on the Saturday morning, then another jelly blob with a bit of blood that evening. Sunday night, DH and I DTD, and my waters broke very slowly as I stood up to go to the bathroom afterwards Blush My labour didn't begin on its own, so I was asked ring the hospital 24hrs later if I still hadn't gone into labour. Nothing happened, so I called them Monday night, and they asked me to go in first thing Tuesday morning for induction. Induction process began at about 8:45am and Dd was born at exactly midday Smile

I think for me it was about 5 days? Only a couple of months ago and I've already forgotten!

rew0077 · 23/07/2016 20:38

Bloody show in the morning and a few episodes during the day. Waters went at midnight, baby arrived at 05:40.
Good luck.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/07/2016 20:40

2 DC and never had a show, bloody or otherwise... I think they're a lie.

vitaminC · 23/07/2016 20:48

With #3 I had a bloody show when I got up in the morning. Active labour started at around 10.30pm. The midwife came out to me at around midnight and Dd3 was born at 1.40am.
Never had a bloody show with the first two!

hallypie · 23/07/2016 21:04

For me it was 48 hours after a bloody show my contractions started

AbsolutelyIDo · 23/07/2016 21:06

I went into labour about an hour after my show.

Hopelass · 23/07/2016 21:12

Show in the morning although I wasn't 100% sure what it was at the time then felt 'off' all day. I was meant to be going shopping with my mum but called her to say I felt like staying in. Waters broke at 10.30pm that night and DS was born 5.01pm the following day.
Doing it all again in 3 months.

LazyJournalistsQuoteMN · 23/07/2016 21:28

I had a bloody show with both my dc, both times, contractions started immediately, had to have my waters broken on both occasions. Babies born about 9 hours later.

mellmumma · 24/07/2016 05:22

Thanks for your experiences, as I assumed what a mixed bag!

I have continued to lose more bloody mucus each time I have gone to the loo since 6pm last night. I feel like I'm having the heaviest period of my life. Plenty of clots when I wipe.

I felt ok enough last night pop over to a family bbq and weirdly found myself hobbling around Tesco at 22:30 last night convinced I needed to do one more shop for cupboard essentials like crumpets and bread and various things to spread on them! Everyone looking at me warily and like I was barmy.

Waited up for hubby to finish work at 12am and by the time he got in the lower back pain had ramped up and put myself to bed with my hypno music and some breathing for the twinges and aches, just rolling over from one side to another seeming something else.

It's not painful like as in I can't handle it, it is just relentless and constant bad period pain and lower backache. If it was coming in waves would be far easier. And if I knew active labour was actually imminent think it would help my headspace, not this waiting game that has been going for days now.

I managed to sleep 1-4:30 but that was broken and I have just given up and made a raspberry leaf tea and filled a hot water bottle to put on my back.

Please say today is the day!! Come on contractions! Just waiting for it to be a reasonable time of day to run a bath, don't want to wake poor hubby as he is working again all day today.

So I gave in and had the bath at 6am. It didn't really help...

Passing so much bloody mucus now it is like the most intense period I've ever had. Rushing to the loo every 20 mins or so as I can feel the pressure building to wipe out more of the stringy snotty bright red show.

Keep having twinges of pain that can only be desrcibed as intense period pain combined with a horrible trapped wind feeling..... Is that a contraction??

They are sporadic at the moment, sometimes 1 in ten minutes, sometimes 1 in 15.... Then I managed to fall asleep for 40 mins before being woken up again. Or is this just Braxton Hicks?!

Back pain still constantly there.... I honestly just feel like I need a big poo or fart.

Think I might call the midwives just to see what they say, hate being a time waster or over reactor though! Hubby due to leave for work in an hour and don't know whether he should stay or not! Don't want to waste a day of his leave now if it isn't the real thing yet!

Four hours, just under.

But this was a premature baby that wanted out!

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/07/2016 08:51

Could be the start of things Grin
I would ring and see what they say xx

mellmumma · 24/07/2016 11:40

Def contractions now!

One in 5-7 at the moment and just under a minute in length.

Hubby staying home for massage, bath and watching The Mask. TENS is amazing. Just struggling to find a comfortable position for contractions...

Fingers crossed it continues!

Midwife very lovely and confirms yes it sounds like the start! X
