Rant!
My sense of smell of driving me crazy and making life rubbish!!
I'm 9 weeks and my sense of smell has been really sensitive (usual pregnancy stuff) since before I even got my bfp....but it's getting more sensitive SadSad it's making everything unbearable.....house smells, kitchen/bin/fridge, dh's breath (!!), his deodorant, food, the car, the bedrooms (open windows every day and shampoo'd carpets, changed beds, air freshener!!!)........even fresh air sometimes......AAAGGGHHH ConfusedEnvyShockHmm

Sorry for the rant.....I'm sure someone can relate!! I'm praying it settles down soon, before I throw up and peg my nose!!

Yes! Yes yes yes!

It's awful isn't it?! There's something about our kitchen sink (I think possible the pipe from the plug hole to the outside drain) that makes me physically sick Confused it's clean as a whistle but nothing shifts the smell! I've tried everything!

Also poor DH had to bring his work shoes home the other day to go on a training course and I made him put them in the shed because the smell of them (he's a chef, I think they were greasy) was making me retch Blush

It's horrible isn't it? Told my mum about it and she told me she was the same - and nearly 30 years on, sometimes she'll smell something that'll have her heaving at the memory of how bad things smelt when she was pregnant with me Confused

HobnobDunker · 22/07/2016 16:02

Ahh I was like this too- the smell of my very inoffensive face cream made me gag! For me it wore off at around 11 weeks so hang on in there!

phoolani · 22/07/2016 16:03

Oh god, the smell of alcohol on someone's breath! It would actually make me vomit. Makes me queasy even now several years later. You have my sympathy.

Timeforabiscuit · 22/07/2016 16:06

Chicken was the worst for me, opening the packet and it always smelt rancid.

There was an aisle in tesco I literally couldnt walk down without retching due to the smell, no one else could smell anything - two weeks later that section of the store was closed down as the sewage line had leaked underneath - so i suppose its useful Hmm

DebieS · 22/07/2016 16:09

Oh the smells are terrible.

I bought new air freshener for my house as I could smell my dogs and even that is making me ill. Even after the dogs being washed I can still smell them and they are confused why I don't want them sitting on my lap anymore poor things ConfusedSad

thecatsarecrazy · 22/07/2016 17:01

Yes!
Everything turns my stomach, perfume, cooking, my kitchen, anyone's breath. My dh and children eat garlic bread once a week I cant go near any of them after. I keep hiding away upstairs because my downstairs smells all the time.

babyash · 22/07/2016 17:54

Thank goodness it's not just me - I don't want to go near my dh (poor guy!)
I don't even want to be at home because it smells so bad - it's spotless but still I smell things! Really hope it wears off - my house always smelt of 'home' not rancid stale carpets Grin

God yes. That was what made me realise I was pregnant... I had bought a packet of nectarines from M&S that came in a recycled cardboard tray. And the tray smelled horrible - it made the whole room smell faintly of bins. My PA was Hmm as I was tracking the source of the evil smell down... She may be suspicious!

And I had to move seats on the tube yesterday because I could smell feet

babyash · 22/07/2016 19:40

Love reading your replies, they are making me giggle that's it's not just me going crazy. Grinits my third baby and never remember it being this crippling in the past!! it's horrible, I feel like a dog!!!!
Even my handbag smells of fish......wtf ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

Also struggling. I live in a semi and can smell everything cooked (and smoked) next door. And everything in the fridge smells off.

soundsystem · 22/07/2016 20:40

Oh I feel your pain. Our whole downstairs smells of bin. Except it really doesn't, because DH is emptying it and disinfecting it daily. But I can still smell it!

And our whole upstairs smells of bums. Specifically toddler DDs nappies. Not dirty nappies, the actual nappies themselves have a smell to them and it hits me whenever I go into her room!

mineofuselessinformation · 22/07/2016 20:45

Not an ideal solution, but since serving past fields of oilseed rape made me retch, I turned to cough candy sweets - it worked for me! but not my waistline

littlemissneela · 22/07/2016 21:24

Lenor blue fabric conditioner did, and still does, makes me want to vom. I also went off coffee, and bad smells were amplified tenfold.

TwirlyHoos · 23/07/2016 01:14

It's the worst ever super power Angry

BalancingStick · 23/07/2016 07:02

A few weeks ago my husband passed me something and asked if I could please put it in the bin. I stepped on the pedal, bin popped open (the smell was released) and I promptly threw up in it! Another time someone in my office cooked broccoli in the microwave, the smell was so bad I had to leave the office. IM 19 weeks now and things are marginally better but you have my sympathies OP.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 23/07/2016 07:05

I know! I couldn't open a magazine in case they had perfume impregnated on the pages. Ugh.

babyash · 23/07/2016 08:20

I'm on a train for most of today......wish me luck with that!!

Smelly people and BO smells 😷

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 23/07/2016 09:54

Oh god, the super sensitive Sense of smell is so depressing. Everything in my house stinks - even my new bedroom furniture Hmm

Even 'nice' smells stink - I've bought some lovely expensive candles but they make me gip too.

I've changed my shampoo 3 times over the last couple of weeks and ditched DH's shower gel as they were making me sick too.

I remember when I was pregnant with DS we had just moved in to a new house and I was so upset that the house didn't smell like ours. I had DH scrubbing the garage floor with bleach regularly to get rid of the non existent dog smell!

GinIsIn · 23/07/2016 09:57

11+3 here and it mercifully wore off last week, along with the crippling nausea. Hang on in there!

chicken2015 · 23/07/2016 10:00

My sense of smell is driving me crazy! My husband laughs and calls it my super power, my husband had bad breath this morning and it made me sick and he was just near me!

babyash · 23/07/2016 10:04

I'm praying it wears off.....I hate my house at the mo!!! never known anything like it! I'm sure I would've remembered it being this bad from the last two times!

I couldn't abide the smell of mint - cleaned my teeth with toddler strawberry gel the first few months...

babyash · 23/07/2016 11:11

Oh gosh! Mint is the only thing that is nice - chewing gum helps a bit at the mo!
