Bleeding a 6wks - what shall I do?

I am 6 wks, 4 days pregnant. Woke up this morning to find I was bleeding - not a huge amount, kind of like the start of a period (I'd say quite a bit more than when I had an implantation bleed - but it may have been building up overnight so looked like a lot in one go). I don't have any pain / cramping and the bleeding has now stopped. It was bright red blood not old blood. Do I need to see a doctor? I am not due my first midwife appointment until 4 August so not sure I can contact the midwife.

Personally I would go to the doctors as I'm a worrier. It is common and could be nothing but I would worry about these things.

I'm the same stage as you but unfortunately my bleeding hasn't stopped yet. Definitely call your local early pregnancy unit as they will want to check you and do an early scan. Fingers crossed everything's ok. Flowers

Do you have a walk in EPU (early pregnancy unit) that does daily scans? If so then I'd head there when you get a chance. Maybe call to find when they are least busy so you don't have a long wait.

Fingers crossed for you. FWIW I had the same both pg and all was fine. With hindsight I think I had a cervical erosion which was causing it. you can also sometimes get bleeding around the time your period would have been due.

Early pregnancy unit won't see me without a referral from GP, so I am going to GP this afternoon. Thanks all. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about. The bleeding has stopped so I hope they won't think I am being ridiculous.

They won't. It's important you're both checked. Good luck. X

dreaming means they won't think you are ridiculous I assume.

Fingers crossed that you have an answer soon, but try not to think the worst as bleeding without cramps is actually not unusual at this stage.

Thanks, GP just rang to say don't go there, go to A and E. Now worried A and E will think I am totally overreacting (have friends who work as doctors there and are always on about people coming in for stuff that should go to GP). Fingers crossed.

I had bleeding of bright red blood at 5wks 5days and went to the EPU for an early scan. They found 2 embryos! and said everything looked fine, but asked me to come back in 2 weeks to check again. They said the bleeding wasn't where the embryos are. Apparently bleeding is more common if it's twins! I scoured the internet for happy ending stories and it seems plenty of women bleed, especially between 5-8 weeks and then go on to have healthy pregnancies. I do hope they can get you a scan appointment today though as I know how worrying it is.

The GP told you to go so not you time wasting, it's them and they have said that to you for a reason. Fingers crossed its all ok Flowers

It may be that A&E can get you in for a same day scan and the Dr can't.

The early pregnancy unit did a pregnancy test with a urine sample and it came back positive. I am booked in for a vaginal scan on Saturday - feels like a long wait.

At least today was ok. Fingers crossed all is well. They're always over cautious with early pregnancy Flowers

Scan today at the EPU - all fine. Got to see the baby and its heartbeat, all feels more real now. They said the bleeding is just one of those things some people have. Thanks for your support, everyone.
