Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
//sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
//cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi Lucinda, thanks for the new thread. Feeling a bit better today having taken antibiotics and paracetamol. I have bad foamy mouth now though. Only a few more weeks to go!

How's everyone else getting on?

Mother Hen is happy to welcome one chick over here!
The watery mouth thing is awful, and the taste. I used to suck barley sugar I got from an old fashioned chemists, but some say that encourages more saliva. I'm glad you feel better generally.

Thanks for new thread lucinda, glad you're feeling a bit brighter special. I'm sat writing this from assessment unit. Headache, swelling and reduced movements this morning. BP fine & little one now going nuts moving around since I have been here - typical. Showing signs of UTI so sending off to the lab. Must be something in the air.

Report
LucindaE · 14/07/2016 14:02

SleepymrsE Goodness, that must have been a shock. Uti's are horrible, and if one can't drink lots of fluids, always a lurking menace. Glad baby is very active now.

I saw this in active threads and just wanted to pop in to wish you all well. DD is almost 2 months old now, and although it has been crazy and exhausting, it has been so much easier than being pregnant with hyperemesis! It was only when I didn't feel sick any more that I realised just how nauseated I was right until the end of my pregnancy - it was just so wonderful when it disappeared, and the hospital food tasted amazing! So all this rambling is to say that it WILL end and it is so worth it. Smile

Hi Madrigal. Lovely to hear about your dd and thank you for the reassurance this isn't how I'll feel forever! Someone from work told me my pregnancy has gone really quickly - how I looked witheringly at them!

I'm really looking forward to a G&T and a fancy meal out once this is over! Going to order everything on the menu that isn't a beige carbohydrate!

All the best to you and your little girl!

Hello everybody

I was lurking on your last thread - and I would like to creep in and join you, though I feel a bit of a fraud.

I'm 12+1 with DC2, and for the last two weeks have been extremely nauseous, to the point where my eating and drinking is tailing off quite a lot and I've lost weight. I have also been sick a few times. Today I finally plucked up the courage and went to see the GP, who has prescribed Cyclizine, and my DH is at the pharmacy picking it up.

With DC1 I had morning sickness, but it was totally manageable; I was sick once every morning before I had eaten or drunk anything then that was it for the day. This is different. I just feel sick ALL the time, and am neglecting my DS (almost 3), my house, my relationship with DH and his work, and I'm just counting down the hours before I can go to bed every day.

I have a friend who had HG three times - brave woman, and I know I'm nowhere near as bad as she was, but I feel so depressed. It's supposed to get better around now, not worse. I've not even had my scan yet (next Tues), so nothing good to focus on and last time it all ended badly with emcs at 27 weeks and a long NICU stay.

Can I join you? Crying here...

Thanks for the new thread Lucinda! Sorry that your IT nightmare continues.

Special I'm glad you're feeling a bit brighter. G&T you say? I'm think l'll be living of prosecco and chocolate fudge cake as soon as this baby is born.

mrsmonkey sorry to hear you're feeling anxious. I think throwing yourself into nesting is a good idea! My sickness is definitely more manageable now, I still feel constantly nauseous but I can force food down and it usually stays down. I laughed out loud at your 19 pairs of baby tights, brilliant!

Sleepy hope you're ok. Flipping UTI!!

So lovely to hear from you Madrigal!! Can't believe your DD is 2 months already. Glad you're doing well.

Welcome Signorita.m, and sorry you're suffering. I hope that the cyclizine works- it can take a couple of days to build up in your system but if you're not feeling better in 48 hours I'd go back and ask for something else. Do you have any ketostix? It's worth buying some to keep an eye on your hydration levels- Amazon sell them.

Have you tried ice lollies? Supermarket cheap ones were all I could keep down at one point. I also nibbled Rice Krispies a few at a time. Took ages to eat but also stayed down!

I totally understand that you're feeling down. I've been there, it's awful. The scan helped improve my mood a little so hopefully it will for you too. Don't feel guilty about your DH and DS- this is so hard to deal with! Flowers

Welcome to Signorita. I so agree with ohters' advice, do go back and ask for other meds if these don't work after a few days, and invest in some kesostix. So sorry to hear of your last tragic outcome. That's awful so late. Of course you are not a fraud. What you have is not normal MS.
The statistics are very much on your side for all to be well this time. Do you find ice cubes, ice lollies, jelly, sips of flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, elder flower water or lucoazade any good? Some swear by chocolate milk shakes. On foods, only junk seems to help like cheap ice cream or chips and crisps.
ickleid That sounds worry about LO. Glad he's OK.
This seems to be different from the old IT problem, and I'm so cross that through some scamster probably after my millions I somehow lost a new thread and Vixxx.
SleepymrsE Sorry to hear of pains; that's dismal.
Back soon.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all the messages, I know I'm being dramatic, but gawd dammit, I have thrown up about 300 times since Sunday & have basically lost my mind. Gaaaaaah.

Btw, 'much tidier puker' is the best thing I've read in ages!

I can't remember who said what from the other thread, sorry, I'm completely useless today after spending much of it crying at the doctor. Trying to remember the questions:
Yes, a proper complaint has been placed;
Yes, they had signed to say the drugs had been 'double checked' - PAH!;
Drugs: metowhatsitsnameclopramide, Cyclazine, Stemetil...
DD 22 December.

Anyhoo, saw the midwife today who checked the baby after Boots-are-not-fit-to-prescribe-gate & he is just fine. I am really not. My suspicions re too much hair loss have now been confirmed as alopecia due to malnourishment. Joy. Was sent to the emergency doc & narrowly avoided a drip. Been taken off all the drugs & given Ondansetron, took one there & then & no allergic reaction (which was what they were worried about). Fingers crossed this works. Was it Ickle who thought I'd be crazy enough for a second? I think you might be right. See, I've lost it. This is what throwing up for 4 months solid does to you.

The midwife told me today that I look 'too thin'. I wonder why. 17 weeks today & I've lost 31 lbs. This is why Kate Middy is so skinny!

Signorita welcome, sorry to hear you're crying. Agree entirely with everyone else's advice - try the drugs for 2 days then go back to the doc. Don't worry about the crying, sometimes you just have to cry. I told the doctor earlier that I was worried about my mental state & she said anyone who's ill like this for this long would feel the same. Quite.

Rae sounds like you're doing very well to me, well done!

Can't remember who has bought all the tights, sorry! Special? But that's hilarious! I wanted to buy all the pretty things too. Maybe it is for the best, bank balance wise... Still not doing the football thing though. Not a chance.

Spent the last few days between medical centres, the bathroom & my bed. This political panto has proved great distraction.

Sorry for lack of personals, memory of a fish today. Hello to all 👋🏼

ickle I'm glad that you and your DS are ok- it's the understatement of the century to say you're having a rotten time of it!

Lucinda I think I might have overdone it. I think I'm feeling quite vulnerable at work and so feeling the need to do lots. DH is really cross with me because I did 2 hours on my laptop tonight whilst he was out playing badminton.

Oh no Lucy, so sorry about the vimiting and hair loss. Glad you're on ondansetron. I think it's the best thing ever- I hope it works for you.

I'm off to crawl into bed now. One more day at work and then I can collapse in a heap...

rae tiles sound good and glad they are the ones you wanted! Bump is definitely not neat just a thoughtless comment from child! Hope whooping cough vaccine was ok. I'm already in bed too!

mrsmonkey sorry about anxiety hope you are enjoying nesting and your dh/dp appreciates it! I know lots of parents of dd that buy lots of outfits- ds always just had mix and match clothes! Love the matching tights though- if we have a dd could see myself doing this!

lucinda thanks for dates list...pleased to see working my way up!

lucy glad your on ondansetron- hoping its had an impact already. Too thin is not a helpful comment from midwife...hope you can start to eat again soon!

Welcome Signorita sorry to hear your struggling. Cyclazine was really effective for me last pregnancy. Hope it helps. We've all been where you are, feeling exhausted and fed up. It doesn't last forever.

So ds stepped on a bee this morning. He seemed ok but then was very fussy at toddler group party with mil. By time he woke from his nap his foot was swollen and he refused to walk on it. Called 111 who referred me to a&e. Was only hour and a half in total to say ibuprofen and piriton which I had already given him was right stuff. He was miserable the whole time we were there and then very clingy this afternoon. Seemed to go to sleep ok so just hoping its gone down by the morning. I do not have the energy for this...

LucyHMK · 14/07/2016 22:02

Oh no! Poor little guy, ickle, that's miserable. Watch his temperature, I'm a little allergic to bites & stings & my temp tends to rocket when I've been stung if the sting site swells up.

Ah, it was MrsMonkey with the tights! I love the tights too. Particularly the ones with cute things on the bottom.

Rae Ondansetron is the best thing ever! I ate supper! I think I'm hungry now actually. It's been a while since I've felt hungry. It's like a miracle drug.

Off to bed for me too, have manage to lose the Amazon Fire remote somewhere in the bed. I was mid AbFab marathon too. How can something just disappear? Annoying!

Thanks ickle. The jab was fine but my arm is so sore today! Taking some paracetamol go work because I'm a wuss. Your poor DS and how worrying for you. I hop that he's ok today.

Lucy so glad you're getting on with the ondansetron! It really has given my some of my quality of life back- I hope it does the same for you. It's weird feeling hungry when you've been sick for so long isn't it!!

Just heading off to work, I'm really not in a good way today but determined to get through it. At least the sun is shining! Thinking of you all Flowers

Morning all, sorry to hear your DS had such a bad experience yesterday ickle, you could def do without trips to a&e. Hope you're not feeling too bad otherwise. Did you get meds for heartburn? They really have made a difference to me.

Glad to hear you've not got ondansatron lucy, that in combination with cyclizine & omeprazole has made HG much more manageable.

rae please take it easy today. Not to take over from mother hen but you sound like you're going to make yourself really ill again. Get by on minimal effort today and lots of rest at the weekend. Hope your arm isn't too sore from whooping cough jab.

mrsmonkey sorry to hear about your anxiety. I think part of it, if you're anything like me, is that we haven't really had time to think about baby because toddler and HG have taken up all our concentration. I do keep saying to DH that I/we don't talk to this one anywhere near as much as we did with DS. I'm sure it'll hit me when I start mat leave in September and start getting nursery ready again.

special, hope you're ok and feeling brighter. Everything turned out OK yesterday. Got sent home to rest, feet up for swelling and I fell asleep for a couple of hours. Headache was much better when I woke and don't feel as bad this morning... Good job really as its mummy day today with DS (who is currently sat nicely watching kids tv). Work is mega busy still which has stressed me a bit and I'm sure that hasn't helped.

sleepy you've already made me feel about the hour of tv ds has had since he woke at 5am this morning! Glad swelling went down, enjoy your mummy day as much as you can! I didn't end up making the dr appointment because of ds sickness but heartburn seems to have calmed down a bit anyway so going to see how it goes

rae I found the same with arm much sorer the next day, but was fine after that so you should be good by the weekend. Glad sun is shining for you- grey and miserable here! Survive survive survive today should be your plan, do as little as possible!

lucy so glad you have some appetite back hope it lasts and you find that fire remote.

Ds seems much better after I forced him to have some piriton (he only happily takes calpol!) And is walking around fine- was walking on tip toes earlier because ball of his foot was obviously sore- hence tv!
