Big parents, small baby

Had the anomaly scan a few days ago, baby is nice and healthy. The only thing that has got me worried is that it's on the small side, around the 30th centile. Obviously this isn't a problem by itself and they said it's well within the normal range, but I'm worried because both me and DH are big people - both slightly above average height and neither of us could be described as petite. Also, DD was on the 90th centile while I was pregnant with her and is still around that now at 15 months old.
How can we be having a small baby?!

Has anyone else had a small baby while being big themselves, and was everything okay?

You're not having a small baby, you're having a normal sized baby! Both my husband and I are WELL above average height (think at least 6 inches over each) and our baby is below 50th centile, and my consultant isn't concerned in the slightest. As long as you are above the 5th centile medical professionals will have no cause for concern. It's not all relative to parents' size.

Both my husband and I are very tall and not petite in frame our first born DD was 10lb and always 99th centile for height. DS was born 2.5 years later and even through I was much bigger he was 7lb7oz and 75th length. I was shocked at how small he felt to me while breastfeeding, dressing and changing but I was just so used to having a big bouncing baby. He is now very tall for his age but very slight in build. All babies are different just try to enjoy your pregnancy. x

My DH and I are both tall...he is 6ft6. But our DD was born on the 2nd percentile. She's 5 now and is very tall for her age! We couldn't believe it when she was born as we expected a huge baby! My DS was 7lb7oz and felt huge in comparison! They all seem to average out in the end!

Is this the anamoly scan at 20 weeks? Because you really need not to worry - some people have babies that measure up to 4 weeks ahead of due date for the last couple of months before evening out - babies don't grow exactly on schedule Smile

Dh and I are both big. I have small babies. Once out they go straight to the top of the chart and stay there! I had to be monitored for this in last pregnancy!

My family just produce small babies. I'm 5ft 8", DH is 6ft (brother 6ft 3") and babies were 6lb 5oz and 6lbs respectively.

My sister is 5ft 10" and her husband is over 6ft and my niece was 5lb 12oz. My siblings and I were all small babies (I was the biggest at 6lb 6oz) - my mum is small though and at birth only weighed 5lb so it just runs in the family.

As long as everything is growing well and following the growth curve baby will be grand.

I get the impression this is totally normal and I need to chill TF out. Thank you all :) I was just expecting another whopper like DD. I suppose there's another 20 weeks for this one to catch up, or it might just be a smaller baby.

My son was decidedly average at birth.
Within three weeks he was at 85% and by two months 98% where he remains at 18months.
No surprise since husband is 6'4" and I'm 5'9"
I put it down to incredibly nutritious breast milk. ;)

30th centile really isn't small, chill and enjoy your pregnancy.
