How to not drink without arousing suspicion?

I'm 7weeks and visiting ILs. Everyone is having a drink.I would normally have a lager in this situation. Refusing a drink would look pretty obvious. Help!

Tell them you're hungover and can't face any more alcohol?

You're on antibiotics for a uti.

Tell them you are on antibiotics and therefore can't drink.

Bring non alcoholic beers?

The old "i am on antibiotics" trick usually works.

Could you be the designated driver?

Hangover is more believable than antibiotics.

Antibiotics is code for I'm pregnant. No sensible adult will believe that. It depends if you want them to believe you or just ignore the obvious politely for a few more weeks.

Antibiotics or overindulged the night before.

Buy Becks blue and tell them it's low calorie and you are watching your calorie intake.

Antibiotics is code for pregnant.

Fake a massive hangover, ask for a shandy or a spritzer to look like you're joining in and only sip it occasionally. If your DP can subtly drink it so it disappears, even better

Say you're not feeling great, but take a lager. Then ignore it. If anyone notices you're not drinking it then say "yeah, feel a bit ropey".

Agree. Massive hangover is the way to go.

Yy don't say antibiotics. Everyone will immediately think 'pregnant! '.

Congratulations Flowers very exciting. It's hard in the early weeks before you are ready to tell everyone.

Take a beer. Have a few sips. Lose beer. Or swap for nearly empty. As long as you act normally with the beer, no one will notice.

Agree best way forward is to pretend to drink, rather than try and come up with a plausible excuse. Probably no-one will notice anyway, they are unlikely to pay attention once you have accepted a drink. Just lose it (volunteering to tidy/wash up is a good way to tip most of it down the sink while no-one's looking), get DP to drink it, or swap for non-alcoholic lager. I was gutted when I had to do this with some really expensive wine friends had brought round for dinner as a treat!

If a man didn't fancy a drink or said nah I'll have a coke, nobody would comment. If you weren't pregnant and didn't want a beer, you'd say no without a second thought. Tittering about antibiotics or making up stories just draws attention. Say yes and don't drink it or no thanks. The onus is on other people not to rudely demand to know the contents of your uterus. If they have manners and they suspect, they'll wait to be told. If they don't have manners and ask, a hard stare will suffice.

The day after I found I was pregnant win my first I had a hen party which had a cocktail making class. Because we were making different cocktails I kept asking my friend next to me if she wanted to swap drinks to try mine. She did and so I just kept swapping them round, it looked like I was drinking them too but if was all her. The more everyone else drank the easier it was for me to look like I was sipping at a drink. Could you do that with dh? Obviously he would know so would be easier. You could have a lager and just regularly swap with him as he drinks?

Get DH on board and have a small number of drinks appear. Sip and swap with DH.

Congratulations Flowers

I agree - the antibiotics excuse is basically code for 'I'm pregnant'! Just accept a drink and discreetly either pour it away at regular intervals or get your DH to drink it!

Don't use the antibiotics excuse! Just accept a lager and then barely touch it. Pour away when you can, or give it to DP.

Report
seven201 · 02/07/2016 21:14

Just take the drink but only have a few sips and get dp to drink some or pour some in a plant pot or something.
