Home birth at 39 - 19 years after last labour and LLETZ treatment

Hi all

I am currently 8+4 weeks with my second child. I'm 39 and my daughter was born 18.5 years ago so a big gap!!!!

I have had 2 lots of LLETZ treatments over the past 10 years. The most recent was 3 years ago. I don't know how much was taken away.

I would really really like a home birth. I have a fear of hospitals but obviously would go in if an emergency situation but I would prefer the relaxation of a home birth and being able to do my own thing and not going to a ghastly post natal ward (why are they all so grim?).

Has anyone experienced this with age and possible cervix complications?

how close are you to a hospital? did you have an issues with your previous birth? what does your doctor say?

All of these can impact.

Personally, with cervix complications I wouldn't be happy with a home birth, but that's me. It could all be fine. So how you feel about it yourself is a factor too.

We are about 15 mins from a hospital possibly a few mins less with a blue light ambulance.

My previous birth was quite quick people say (it didn't feel it at the time) at 9 hours in total from start of labour at home to giving birth. 2nd stage labour was quick at about 20 mins. But that was 19 years ago!!!

When I saw the dr last week to inform them of pregnancy I didn't think to mention it to be honest! It was only hearing about a woman today at work having the same procedure as I had that made me think of it!!

I had a home birth following an LLETZ and am booked for another home birth and it hasn't been raised as an issue by the midwives - I'm still classed as low risk and they're happy with the home birth plan. I'm 31 so not sure if that makes a difference. I guess it's worth discussing with the midwife?

I had lletz and was under consultant care as my cervix had shortened at 24 weeks and was soft. I had progesterone pessaries until 36 weeks and lots of rest, I was then signed back to Midwife care and classed as low risk. So you may be fine:)

My experience of birth after LLETZ isn't very positive I'm afraid: I had two lots of treatment in 2014. My DD was born by EMCS last week after my cervix completely failed to dilate effectively. The obstetrician said the problem was caused by scar tissue.

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone. I'm hoping the midwife will be able to tell me more tomorrow at my booking in appointment. I know I shouldn't set my heart on a home birth but it would be so much more relaxing and chilled hopefully.
