Pregnancy

I'm nearly 11 weeks pregnant - DS woke with Chicken Pox this morning. . . .

I'm pretty certain I had it as a child - I carry a scar to prove it. But I've got some recollection of having to go to GP for blood tests if you're pregnant and come into contact with Chicken Pox. Is this just to set my mind at rest or can they actually do anything if they find something they shouldn't?

Poor thing (your son and you) - chicken pox is horrible.

Even if you've had it, you should get it checked out. I think the risk is quite low early on but they can give you anti-virals if they think there's any risk of infection

The risk to the baby of getting chicken pox while pg is worse if it is later in pg rather than earlier I believe.

You can be given immunoglobulin if neccessary but I think if you've had it you will be ok. Might be worth ringing your GP or your midwife in the morning - they will at least reassure you.

:see here

You are fine if you are immune. My two had it in the summer, keep them cool and clean. Piriton syrop for the itching is very good.

Thanks girls - DS sems fine in himself so far. I'll phone the GP tomorrow and see what he says. I'll also double check with my mum - mind you she can only normally remember anything about my elder brother; my younger brother and I don't get much of a look in as far as memories go - but that's another story!
