Anyone had a scan at 16 weeks with NHS where they revealed the gender? I have a transvaginal at 16weeks and I'm hoping they'll tell me the gender but I know it's usually at the 20week scan

I had a transvaginal scan at 16 weeks to check cervical length. I then had subsequent ones every week until 20 weeks for monitoring. No one ever offered to tell me the gender until the 20 week scan, although to be fair I didn't want to know so I didn't ask.

They were all pretty quick scans with a definite medical objective in mind, and I think if I'd asked some of the sonographers I had a question like that it would have gone down like a lead balloon!

I had a 16 week scan due to previous late miscarriage, and not a squeak about gender I'm afraid. I didn't even think to ask. Consultant told us when he did 20 week scan.

It depends on what they find and how they want to treat it I suppose! My consultant was very cautious - I think weekly scans are unusual! I got a telling off from a grumpy registrar at one point for coming in so often (and he subsequently got a telling off from the consultant for being arsey!).

My cervix was a bit borderline, so instead of a stitch I had progesterone pessaries and monitoring - I was discharged from the monitoring at 20 weeks because cervix had lengthened to a normal length. I stayed on the pessaries until 34 weeks though - am 35 weeks now. Hope it goes well for you!
