Baby movements at 26 weeks...

Hi ladies,
this is my first pregnancy and I started feeling movements at 19 weeks pregnant, I am now 26 and she isn't as active as she was. Am I supposed to count the kicks at this point? My MW said not to do it until 28 weeks, but have seen a lot online about counting the kicks around about now. Did your babies move much at 26 weeks or were they ''lazy''?

Hi Charlotte - pretty sure I had reduced movements around 26 weeks too (now 30). Mine have been very sporadic throughout tbh. I went into hospital for a check when I was worried about the same time as you. I was too early for a trace (on the monitor) so they used a doppler and everything was fine.

You should check out the antenatal club section and find your due date thread if you haven't already, I've found our thread really reassuring for things like movement etc to compare with others

Yep ditto, went in for monitoring too at the same point- I think they start sleeping longer. At 36 weeks now there is still no pattern really. Still worth getting checked out though!

I'm about the same stage of pregnancy as you and I definitely have quiet days where I can't feel the baby move as much. It always freaks me out, no matter what! I think it's very normal though.

I spoke to my midwife the other day when I was really worried and she advised me to lie on my left hand side, drink a very cold and very sugary drink. Within about ten minutes or so, I could feel the baby kicking.

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she was listening to the heartbeat. We could also hear the swooshing sounds of the baby moving and only once in about ten swooshes did I feel movement, too. I think the baby has lots of room to move around at this stage so doesn't always make contact.

I've download a foetal sleep tracker app which lets you log every time you feel a movement. Over a few days, it starts to show you a pattern. I like it and it's reassuring.

The other thing I've realised is that a few weeks ago, feeling the baby move was a kind of novelty, and was unexpected. Then over the 25th week, I got used to feeling it and expected to feel it all the time. my mindset changed so non-movement felt really wrong, if that makes sense?

Anyway, sure all is fine but try waking the baby up wiThe the lying down and drinking trick. If nothing happens, call your midwife and she'll advise/reassure.

Good luck
