Induction of pregnancy question

INDUCTION MUMMIES can you help please? Because I'll be 42 when my princess arrives my consultant has told me they will induce me at 40 weeks. I was just wondering if anyone has managed to get them to do it a couple of days early as 40 weeks falls on a Tuesday and as I've got three kids it would be easier for my Mum to look after them if they could do it on Saturday? I realise emergencies will take priority and they might not get to me on the Saturday but I'm just thinking of her not having to use too much holiday from work.
Thank you xx

I'd say it's very unlikely they'd do it at the weekend. I think they usually have specific days for induction. Both times I was induced on a Thursday at my hospital, even though that was earlier than needed. For example; I was induced as I was overdue at T+11 instead of T+14 and second time around, 39+3 instead of at 40. You could try and ask though. Worst case they'll say no.

You can always ask. I went in on a Saturday morning for my induction. Many people don't want to be in hospital at the weekend so it was nice and quiet Grin I was induced at 39 + 1 due to pain from arthritis and spd so nothing that couldn't have waited until 40 weeks but they got me in when there was space as they were concerned about the rush of mothers not wanting to be kept in over Christmas and demanding early inductions!!

Ds didn't arrive until Monday morning though!!

Joining in to say I had a Saturday induction as well and was home by 1pm Sunday! So you might be ok with it! (Mine was at 38 weeks though and they needed DD to come immediately due to reduced fluid).

I'm hoping as it's nice and early yet (I'm 27 weeks) that they can book me a slot now, I see my midwife next week so no harm in asking I suppose. Thank you all 😊

You might go in to labour naturally before 40 weeks anyway!

Get a Tuesday as your less likely to be pushed back from all the weekend emergencies!

I was induced at weekend, but it went on for many days

I went in for induction on a Friday morning and delivered in the early hours of Monday morning (8 days ago!) You could ask for a different day but need to plan for it to take longer than expected though. My hospitals policy is to induce older mothers at 38 weeks (I'm 41 and 3/4).

Also 5 days here being induced at 40+1! Our hospital won't book you in till about 36 weeks.

The date of your induction isn't necessarily the day you will give birth, and you could end up having to stay in hospital post-birth anyway (I was induced and in for 4 days in the end). While I'd obviously hope that everything moves swiftly and normally, I think you should prepare your Mum for needing to take holiday regardless of the day you are induced.

Good luck!
