Pregnancy

dieting and pregnancy - anyone done it?

Good afternoon :)

I am about 10 weeks and I weighed in at 90kg (5'3") which was a shock. I've struggled with weight and peaked at 100kg but had got down to 62... But it's crept on in the past 2 years. Anyway, I'm obviously causing risks and the midwife advised slimming world (which I had considered). Has anyone done this? I'm worried about the impact on the baby if my body is burning fat reserves for energy but j don't know enough to make a decision. My eating is generally ok (if Im honest I can cut back on some types of foods) but I am already a meal skipper. Anyone dieting in pregnancy? Is it ok? What weight loss do you aim for?

Thanks :) :)

Slimming world, well a slightly modified version is approved by the royal college of midwives and therefore perfectly safe for pregnancy. Slimming world does not allow meal skipping, and is based on healthly food.

I'm doing Slimming World at the moment. They don't encourage you to lose weight on it while you're pregnant, but they do say it will help with maintaining and minimal weight gain. It's really easy and encourages you to eat lots of nourishing fruits and veg. Then you can have a daily allowance for any 'added extras' like higher fat or calorie foods and drinks.

I put on a lot of weight with my first and am fearful of gaining too much this time which is why I decided to follow the diet.

Hi, I have been low-carbing and am planning on continuing with it as much as I can. It's the only thing that works for me and stops me from overeating. As long as I get all my nutrients I think I will be OK.

I have this problem too - what are people's view about exercise in early pregnancy. I don't do any but feel I should probably start as I'm so unhealthy at the moment

I'm doing some light exercises but still I weigh 108 lbs.

I followed the principles of slimming world in the beginning but I'm now 30 weeks and have fallen into bad habits.

As for exercise I was advised that swimming is the safest thing to start in pregnancy if you weren't already doing any exercise before but talk to your midwife about it.

I'm surprised, honestly. I was on WW when fell pregnant & both GP and MW both said not to diet but "sort that out after". Possibly due to the severe morning sickness though.
