Pregnancy

Anyone else find out they were pregnant really early and now feeling like 12 weeks is forever away?!

So I'm approx 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my first. Found out at 3 weeks 6 days and although it's been an amazing few days talking about it with DH and planning ahead, I now feel like I'm staring into a very long void until we get to a 12 week scan or a point we can talk to family and friends about it.

Anyone else in the same position? I'm worried there's only so much talk my DH can out up with before I drive him mental! He's naturally very cautious but my hormones are currently in overdrive making me obsessed with this minuscule poppy seed growing inside me!

I'm not in the same position as I'm done with my babies, but found out with DC1 at 3+4! It was really annoying. I vowed not to do the same with DC2 and held out to the heady heights of 3+6!

You can always tell close friends and family - I didn't tell anyone with DC1 then had a bleed at 7 weeks, I didn't have anyone to turn to (all was fine in the end, he's now 4!) and I wished I'd told a few select people.

As a result, I told a few people at 6 weeks with DC2.

Haha, that 2 days is a huge difference! ;) I feel for you having to wait ages both times! Crikey! I kind of wish I'd waited but then I would have had an inkling when AF didn't show 3 days ago anyway I guess.

DH originally didn't want to tell people until we are 18 weeks but I've worn him down to 12. If anything goes wrong, I'll tell my family and close friends but I do kind of want to keep it as our private thing for a while. Aside from the MN world of course!

I found out last week which for me was just before 4 weeks, 12 weeks seems so long away. I keep thinking WAY too far ahead, keeping getting excited and already thinking of names but it's such early days I'm worried I'm going to jinx it xx

I was the same! Found out in the 3 week mark! 12 weeks seemed to take ages to get to......I'm now 31 weeks and willing it to slow down🙈

If you don't want to tell anyone before you have had a scan you could book a private early reassurance scan from 7 weeks x

I found out this one at 3+5 and it took forever to get to 12 weeks!

Then, it rushed by in a blink and now I'm 39+6 and time has slowed down again!

I found out at 6 weeks. To be honest it didn't go excruciatingly slow, had booking appointment at 10 weeks and then scan at 12 weeks which broke it up for me and made it easier to focus on them as milestones.

Now 20+3 and that 8 weeks between the 12 week and 20 week scans has absolutely flown 😳

I found out at 3+4. Told my parents and sisters the same day. Next few weeks really dragged!

I paid for a private scan at 8 weeks as I couldn't wait that long. NICE to have that reassurance, especially as I had a lot of cramping and a bit of bleeding very early. We told a few friends and my team at work after that.

Just had my first NHS scan today at 13+1.

Mine was IVF so from two weeks you're praying it implants and then you know for sure at 4 weeks but most people (me included!) start testing at 3 weeks! So I've known since a few days after 3 weeks. Am now 7+5 and it feels like forever and I'm still a month away from the big 12 week bench mark!

I'm at 5+4 and it feels like 5+3 was about 3 weeks ago, and 5+1 (when we got the BFP) might as well as have been last year. It's dragging! I think we're going to pay for a scan at 8 weeks as well for some reassurance, because I'm really worried about things going wrong! 8 weeks feels a bit of an easier wait than 12 weeks... but still too far away!

Yep, I found out at 4+2 and it has dragged like hell! Everything feels like AGES away! I had my first midwife appt last week at 7+6, and those three weeks between finding out and the appt felt like an eternity.

I decided to book an early scan for reassurance so had that last Friday - thought I would be 8+4 when I booked it but midwife adjusted my dates so it ended up being 8+0 and then the sonographer said baby was measuring 7+5 so my dates have been going in reverse, haha!

If you can have an early scan I would definitely recommend it. I feel so much more chilled out since I had it and saw the little flickering heartbeat. Also time doesn't seem to be dragging quite so much either X

Just to add, we also aren't telling people til the 12 week scan when we will hopefully get the OK for everything. Parents would be so excited at the news that we couldn't bear for them to be upset if anything went wrong

Yes I found out at 3 weeks, thought j had a stinking hangover. We told our parents right away and a close friend at 7 weeks. Had a private viability scan at 9 weeks which was lovely.

It's such a personal choice. We told a select few friends and family after the viability scan and then "common knowledge" eg work at about 14 weeks after we received our harmony test results.

Congratulations Thanks

I found out at 3+3 this time, think it was similar timing with DD1. It does make for a very very long pregnancy! But like PPs we had a private viability scan at 7 weeks this time, so that helped - it meant I was happier telling people once we'd had the all clear from that. It was pretty hard to hide the news as I was so ill - no way I'd have lasted to 12 weeks concealing it.

I'm now 37+5 so the time does pass eventually!

Found out with DD at 3 weeks, felt like a life time long wait until scan. Found out with this baby at 8+2, am now 10+4 and it has flown by!!

Thanks everyone, lovely to hear so many of you were/are in the same boat!! (even if that's a cruel thing to say!!)

Congrats to those of you in the third trimester and close to the finish line now!

I might book an early scan- how did you go about doing it? My GP were rubbish at giving advice when I called- just said to self refer to a midwife at 12 weeks to arrange stuff with no need to do anything beforehand! I've filled out the online form and it says they'll contact me at 8 weeks.

I'm a teacher and this is literally the worst time of the year to be stressed with exams and coursework deadlines so I'm panicking a little about trying to stay calm. Hopefully it will also be a good distraction though and time might go by quickly!

Pod, that's one of the reasons we don't want to say much, my mum would be so excited so want to give her something a little more concrete to be excited about!

Not currently pregnant, but had similar with DD. Also got dates spectacularly wrong , so went for '14' week scan and was told she was only 8 weeks and heart beat was only just visible. Due date went from mid March to end of April! I felt like I was pregnant for about a year before we told anyone officially!

I had to go private for my early scan as did my sister in law. I'm in London and can recommend FMC. You just call the clinic and they book you in no GP required.

Think every borough/trust is different but believe you have to pay private unless there is a prior medical history which would require you to have an early scan via the NHS.

Report
pod100 · 23/03/2016 08:29

Yes, jamjar, you have to pay for private scans unless you have medical history to suggest you need additional monitoring. Most places do them from 7-8 weeks. The longer you can hold out, the better, as there will be more to see.

Just google 'private pregnancy scans' and your local places should come up. There are loads of them around the country. I paid £79 for mine but have seen some people get deals for around £50 and others paying £99. The appointment is around 15 mins

I would also recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley St - they're excellent, really thorough and knowledgeable. We had our early scan there and a 32 week wellbeing one

Congrats OP! I found at at 4+3 and I'm now about 9+5.... wasn't planning on telling anyone until the 12 week scan but I've been so horrifically exhausted and nauseous that I've not been at work, and it's just ended up being common knowledge. Scan is in mid April, I'm really looking forward to that as I've not felt at all well with this (my second) pregnancy so far and hopefully I will see a healthy see bean on the screen!

Oh no fts, that would be so annoying! Glad it was ok but a bit anticlimactic when you'd waited for ages to get to the 12 week scan!

I think we are going to try to wait until 12 weeks for a scan. I have no reason to have one aside from being impatient so will hold on for another 7 weeks. Gah, 7 weeks lol!!

Aww humming, I hope you feel better soon. Not long at all til your scan now, very exciting!!

I'm finally at 5 weeks today. Only 4 working days until I'm 6, that's manageable. I'm absolutely exhausted but feeling a bit of a fraud for thinking I've got symptoms quite so early!

The first time I didn't find out until 8ish weeks (happy accident so didn't test until I got these 'weird' symptoms) and didn't know how far along I might be (periods had been irregular or absent for months) so was rushed into the system with booking in appointment and scan. Turned out I was only 10 weeks at the scan so got another one 2 weeks later - bonus! The first tri still felt like it dragged but wasn't too bad.
This time my cat tipped me off I might be up the duff again (we were actually trying this time, so not unexpected) with her crazy only-behave-like-this-around-pregnant-ladies behaviour. Got a bfp at 3+5. Despite a toddler keeping me busy and managing to get confused along the way as to just how many weeks I am now (25 or 26, I'm not quite sure. Poor already-neglected second child), bloody hell has it dragged. It was definitely better the way it happened last time.

I found out at 4+1and it felt like it took years to get to 12 weeks.

DD is now a month old and it feels like it was yesterday when I found out.

Good luck with your pregnancy Flowers

I found out before I missed my period (32 day cycles so was 4 weeks). Had a private scan at 8/9 weeks so we could tell family & close friends before Christmas. Told work at 12 weeks then a wider circle of folk at 20 weeks. I don't think I could have waited til 12 weeks to tell family & best friends.

Yes!! Found out this morning at 3+6, not only has DH now gone away for the weekend so I have no-one to talk to about it, I saw a friend earlier who grilled me about ttc, then another who bought a bottle of gin with her!! It already feels like it's going to be long!
