First trimester - constantly worrying

Hi all,

I am just over 5 weeks pregnant. Today I feel like my symptoms have subsided. Is that normal? Do they come and go?

I have never been pregnant before, but am constantly worrying whether the baby is still growing and feel like constantly doing tests to check I'm still pregnant/ I read so much about MC it's making me so upset and worried. Now my symptoms have gone down, other than my boobs are a BIT sore and a I'm so tired but that might just be work.

Is this normal X

Hi Sharon

Congratulations :)

I'm also 5 weeks pregnant and slightly worried that something could go wrong, it feels too good to be true.
But the way I look at it is that there are risks in everything we do daily, I think it's because it is something new we're so wary.
Keep positive and enjoy giving your baby a nice cosy place to grow for the next 8 months Smile x

I'm also around 5 weeks (I think). I wonder if I'm imagining my symptoms and whether I'd actually notice them if I didn't know I was pregnant. Im fairly tired but not too bad, boobs a bit sore but not agony, felt queasy earlier but soon passed. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and half of me expects to be laughed out of the surgery.

I know I still keep going to the toilet and checking AF hasn't rocked up late.
I also have sore boobs, feeling v tired and some food does make me feel a little bit nauseous already. That's about it so far.
Hope the doctors goes well today Smile

39w today and the worrying doesn't stop, is normal, and apparently will only increase once they're born!

Obviously the the worrying becomes too bad and is affecting your quality of life then speak to your gp or mw.

Good luck ladies :)

It is such a worrying time, think it's just because we want it to work out so much!! I'm quite into yoga so this might be a bit woo for you but I've been doing deep inhales of love and light to the baby, then exhaling the worry and negativity. As I say, bit woo but works for me 😄

Hi Sharon - same for me. I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and symptoms seem to come and go from day to day. This is also my first pregnancy and I had no idea of the feelings of fear and anxiety I would have! For days I was having dull period-type pains then for a few days absolutely nothing. The one constant symptom however is my sore boobs - but again, some days worse than others.
It's good to know it's normal and others are experiencing the same!

This is normal. I didn't have anything early on at all.
To be honest I still dont really have many "symptoms" at 28 weeks.

Nothing will stop your worrying though and will only get worse as time goes on and after they are born!

You will spend your time Googling "is it normal if my baby......"

Congratulations!

I've had the same at 8+1- nausea has pretty much subsided, boobs aren't as sore. But I have started getting little stretchy cramps in my abdomen so I'm just going to tell myself it's a new symptom to replace the old ones. From what I've read it's very normal to not have any symptoms at all at 5 weeks and equally normal for them to come and go as your hormones fluctuate, so try not to worry too much. Although saying that I was a bag of nerves between about 4-6!

Congratulations :)

thanks for the feedback everyone. I just feel like last week my symptoms were strong and I was getting a lot of cramps, but that seems to have slown down a lot now. I hope the doctor says everything is normal when I go there tomorrow. I suppose I cant expect to have really sore boobs and growing cramps every single day for 9 months. Its just a nice feeling knowing you are getting the symptoms and feel 'pregnant'. Google is the worst i am going to stop trying to google stuff as it just seems to be horror stories. good luck everyone x

Lots of us around 5 weeks! Me too!
I think what's so terrifying is its so early and we have so little control. I've been waiting for this for years, even though we only started trying a few months ago. I keep poking myself in the boobs to check they still hurt!

It's going to be a long few weeks to hit the 12 week scan!

I'm exactly the same, I'm six weeks today and I'm constantly worried.
I've got sore boobs, tired, my constipation is awful currently and I've been feeling quite sick but still think it could just be coincidence.
I try to get over the worrying by taking each day as it comes. Also the risk of miscarriage reduces at week 6 to 5%, and although you might see a lot about miscarriage there's actually more chance everything going well than something going wrong.

Another 6 week worrier here. I would say try not to worry, but.... !!
It's weirdly nice to know other people are as anxious as me, pregnancy can feel very lonely. You definitely aren't alone. Let's all aim for one day at a time. And try to stop poking our boobs! 💐

I agree Kt, definitely nice to know there's other people like us!
Cramping had started today. Yay?

I am so glad I am not the only weirdo poking my boobs every few hours to check they still hurt!! Definitely very tired now, boobs fairly sore although the cramping has eased off, it was cramping everyday last week so I'm hoping it did a lot of growing!

Got my first doctors appointment tomorrow, couldn't go any earlier as have been away with work. Fingers crossed he says all is well!

I have also decided to pay for an early pregnancy scan at 7.5 weeks. It's £90 and I figure it'll put my mind at rest.

Sharon,

you'll have to let me know what they do it the first appointment, as I have mine next week Smile
That's a nice idea to get an early scan done, can't wait to have our first scan.

Xx

Don't get your hopes up regarding your first doctor's appointment. Unless you have a pre-existing health concern such as high blood pressure, which might necessitate a BP check, they will do literally nothing except smile at you and somewhat bewilderedly wonder what you want, since you're not ill! Don't be upset if you feel a bit fobbed off- many GPs won't even see newly pregnant people, they just give you the number to call to refer to the midwife/ hospital, and that's you in the system.

it's your booking in appointment with the midwife which is much more exciting! (blood tests, weight measured full family history taken).

Also, small piece of loving advice. if you're 5 weeks, then you are currently one week into knowing that you are pregnant. it is a long slog, full of amazing moments, and some worrying times, and you have another 35 of those weeks to go, assuming all goes well. Try to relax and don't ruin the experience by fretting over things, many of which are totally out of your control. Flowers

WickerHearts · 23/03/2016 18:29

Oh yes I'm going for my appointment to discuss medication while pregnant, I realise they won't do much else until your booking appointment.

Trouble is, when looking online, a lot of people say book an appointment with your gp...so of course, you do it straight away.

Still all very exciting to get the ball rolling Smile

Jamjar12 · 23/03/2016 18:51

When I called my Drs, they said I just wait til I'm 12 weeks then self refer online to a midwife who'll contact me then.

I was rather deflated! I did the online referral now and it says they'll contact me at 8 weeks.

It is all rather disappointing isn't it! All that excitement and then you just have to wait. I have 'treated' myself to a CB digital today to watch the weeks go up (3+ yay!). It's a tiny shred of reassurance before I pick it apart and start worrying again. I had a mmc before this pregnancy so definitely hyper aware of what can go wrong. Holding on to the whole 95% of pregnancies are fine after 6 weeks thing. X

Hi all im the youngest on the thread I think lol
I'm 4+4 ive been having cramps too but due to previous problem ive had to use progesterone pessaries since I found out which was Sunday past - im constantly worrying and knicker checking - my frers are not getting any darker though so slightly concerned I did get a preg 1-2 on a digi on Sunday and that's still the case today just wish I knew what was going on in there x

Weddingbelle13 - I have read that some people have to wait a couple of weeks before they start seeing darker lines on their pregnancy tests. Don't worry!

I had my first doctors appointment today. I completely agree with the comments above. They are fairly dismissive - she didn't even ask me to do a pregnancy test - she just took my word that I am pregnant. I am now waiting for the MW to call me to book in my 11-13 week scan. Hopefully I get a call soon.

I have also booked into the Oaks Clinic for an 8 week scan. I am hoping this will put my worries at bay. For £90, if it keeps me happier, then its worth the money!

It is so natural to worry, i am 6w and it has been constant.

Kept telling myself my lack of symptoms was fine and I could make it to 12w.

Then last night I had heavy bleeding. Couldn't get hold of the doctor as it was after 5, so I went to the hospital. They were useless, did a urine and blood test to confirm pregnancy (surely even if i was miscarrying it would still be positive) and then told me I couldn't have a scan until Tuesday (this was on a wednesday). She told me to come back if the bleeding got worse - but not really sure what else they were going to do. She also commented on how we shouldn't go away for the weekend like we had planned because of travelling while bleeding (not because of any danger, just because it would be "uncomfortable" for us) - seems a bit odd, surely its the same as a period?

Anyway, I frantically called private clinics this morning despite the fact the bleeding had stopped (after a night of no sleep), got an appt and was told it may be too early to see anything. Went in anyway and all she had to do was an abdominal scan, not even a vaginal one, and she saw the strongest little heart beat and measured me at 6w 3d. It cost £79 and it was the best money I have ever spent.

I am shocked that even with heavy bright red bleeding, the NHS won't scan unless you push for it, and even then I was expected to wait 6 days. All the gyn told me was that it was a threatened miscarriage and to wait it out, awful bedside manner, no reassurance whatsoever.

So if you have a genuine concern, do try and push to see what the NHS will do, but it may be worth considering your options privately.

On the bright side - I have had absolutely no symptoms and I have a strong heart beat at 6 weeks, so don't torture yourself with touching your breasts to check they are sore (been there) or anything else - its fine! I have known women who have mmc and still have lots of symptoms, and women with absolteuly no symptoms who now have beautiful babies!

And even if you do have bright red heavy bleeding - it doesnt always mean the end!!!

Wanted to share my positive outcome after lots of worry, and wanted to rant about the hospital/NHS in my area!

Oh thank god so relieved for you!! I start reading your story and thought "oh god" by it just goes to show how useless the NHS can be!! I do agree I think spending £70/90 to put your mind at rest is so worth it. It's not healthy for us or the baby to be worrying all the time.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and glad that it was just a scare and nothing more serious!

This is me as well at the moment, just constantly terrified! DH says it feels like we're both waiting for something to go wrong and he's right, we're both very worried especially as my symptoms aren't as bad today (and lines in pregnancy tests are very weak!!) but I'm sure all the worrying can't be good for any of us :(
