couldn't do nuchal test

Hi!
I went for my 12 week scan last week and it was a shambles. I was in a room with a few others who got called in, people kept arriving and getting called in while I just sat there.

After I was 1/2 hour late and starting to get very emotional with a full bladder, my dp went and queried what was going on. I was told that there were 5 sonographers and mine had a broken machine, which is why I was still waiting and others were going in.

Anyway, ten mins later I finally got called in. The sonographer commented I had a very full bladder! HmmHardly surprising!!
He did the scan, found the heart beat, but couldn't do the nuchal fold test as the baby was either on its back or front.

He rushed us off, think he realised he was running very late, told me to go to the midwife at 15 weeks to have a blood test. He also couldn't give us any pictures as he hadn't taken any Hmm

Found the whole experience not as positive as id hoped for. Should he have offered me another scan to do the test? He said my dates put me at exactly 12 weeks so plenty of time.

At our 12 week scan they couldn't do the nuchal test so we too were told a blood test at 15 weeks would be arranged. They don't usually offer more scans for nuchal testing. Try not to worry, our nuchal results came back fine Smile

Depends on your risk factors I'm 35 and there's no way I would have left without it either having been done or rescheduled.

Personally I would ask for a rescan.

There's nothing that can be done about the machines not working, I've had 2 scans that were late because the computer was playing silly buggers, however, it shouldn't have been so rushed. They should have al least tried to get the baby to move.

The quad blood test is notoriously inaccurate as giving a risk factor.

The other option, if you have the money, is to have a private nt scan and/or a nipty test done.

We would usually try to accommodate a second attempt if there's time so would have at least checked to see if there were any appointments before you were 14 weeks, could you give the antenatal clinic a ring on the morning to double check if there are any?

Sounds like baby was face down which is ok for CRL to date but can make getting a picture almost impossible, I think maybe your sonographer could have communicated that a bit more sensitively though

If you can afford it I recommend a NIFTY test, need to do before 14wks

Good luck

Thanks everyone! I'm 34 so would like to have had it sorted. I'll ring up tomoro and if they can't fit me in I'll definitely look into a private scan.

I'm not worried as much as dp is, he'd definitely like to put him mind at rest.

Had such lovely sonographers the first time around, was a shame this fellow wasn't overly helpful.
