First trimester - FREEZING COLD!

Hi all,

I am 5 weeks pregnant going on 6 weeks. Yesterday and today I have been so cold!! Like I am stood outside on a snowy day! Yet the office heating is on plus I have a portable radiator next to me! I am never usually like this and am worried something is wrong.

I have all the normal pregnancy symptoms, plus being really cold and a few sore muscles on my back.

Any advice would be great I hope nothing is wrong!

S x

I haven't really experienced this but know it can be frustrating not getting a reply. But from studying nursing i know it can be totally normal! Your hormones will be all over the shop doing so many changes within your body my hormones made me roasting hot whereas yours are making you cold...don't worry about it and congratulations on your pregnancy! Thanks hun, I am so pleased to be pregnant I want to do the best I can to make sure I get to 12 weeks smoothly!

I really hope this coldness is normal...and that it stops soon!!

Any recommendations to warm myself up? Heaters and jumpers just aren't helping...

Will any extra food help? x

Last pregnancy around 5 weeks I was so cold I was going to bed with a blanket wrapped around me and under our winter duvet (it was May). I'm 5 weeks tomorrow and last night could NOT get warm. It's certainly something that I experience.

Wrap up and keep cuddled up!

Oh god I remember it well! Everyone around me was practically stripping off, yet I was bundling up and wearing my winter coat in the office.

Middle trimester I felt 'normal', but third trimester the thermostat went doolally again - everyone around me was getting out their winter coats, but I was wearing the bare minimum and wanted the windows open while it snowed!

Ain't being female lovely?

BTW backache could be from tension at being cold, but it can also be s symptom of a urine infection.

Haha really! Oh god I just hope nothing is wrong!! I always thought pregnant women were meant to be extra warm not cold!!

I read that beetroot juice is supposed to be good for blood flow... also worried as I am sat on my butt in the office all day so that probably isn't helping my blood flow.

If anyone has any tips I would be so grateful :)

I am always quite cold but the last few weeks (6+5 now) I've definitely not been able to get warm - didn't really think of it as a symptom! I also wake up super hot at night. All very random :)

I am so glad I am not the only one! Everyone in the office is moaning at me to turn the portable radiator off as the central heating is already on 25 degrees...but my fingers are soo cold I can hardly type!!

I have a meeting with the doctor on Thursday so I can mention it then too x

I recommend a hot water bottle at work - doesn't affect anyone else who is warm and really makes a lot of difference (unlike layers, which I find do nothing)

I was cold in my first trimester and I'm 37 weeks on Monday and sat here freezing my bum off now!

I was freezing first trimester, shivering all the time. I put some of it down to exhaustion and sickness but it's probably hormones. I'm 22 weeks now and have defo warmed up Shock

I had this, I was cold to the core and I couldn't warm up! Went away about 9 weeks, I remember DH having to put his hiking socks on me at night!

I was freezing too so much so that I had a tshirt cardigan blanket heating and the fire on (DH went mad at our heating bill last month Hmm) Iv only just stopped feeling cold at 16wks but still occasionally feel cold but I think that's cos I'm feeling under the weather at the minute. It will pass but just keep snuggled up for now

Normal for me too, I also had hyperemesis and was constantly tense. The doc said you can be feeling cold from being sick as it takes up so much energy. I think I'm naturally cold though but definitely during pregnancy extra cold. As a PP said it does seem to improve a bit by the middle trimester but I'm still wearing my dressing gown most of the day as so little else fits!

I can totally relate! I am 10 weeks now and thought for weeks that baby is withdrawing all my blood, leaving my with very little to circulate around the rest of my body. I've been sooo called. I can also relate to the tenseness.
I am sooo looking forward to some warmer weather!

Yep another one here. Spent the whole first trimester freezing. I'm approaching 20 weeks now and it's stopped now. Was grim though!

I was freezing for the first trimester. Only thing that warmed me up was hot baths.

I had this. Nothing warmed me up at all. Started improving about 11 weeks but still have it on and off if I am particularly tired - now 16 weeks.

Yes! I always feel the cold anyway, but definitely moreso now and I'm 8 weeks. It's worst on an evening. I can come in from my spinning class in a tshirt and hoody, have the heating and the fire on and still have to wrap up in a massive blanket

Report
JeopardyMouse · 20/03/2016 23:14

Definitely connected to me being tired, too. It's much worse in the evenings.
