After years of infertility and never have been pregnant before I promised myself I wouldn't complain if I ever managed to get pregnant. Butttt I cannot stop being sick, retching and feeling sick 24/7. I'm awake through the night with nausea and vomiting about 3 different times during the day!! Please help me with some suggestions. Can't sleep I feel that sick!

Hey - congratulations and sorry to hear you feel so poorly.

Don't beat yourself up for complaining about all day morning sickness. It's just incredibly draining and unpleasant, and there's very little that can be done until it (hopefully) starts to ease up between weeks 12 and 14.

Different things work for everybody. For me, it helped not to let my stomach get completely empty. So every 2/3 hours, I'd have something small and plain - an oatcake/simple yoghurt/banana/glass of milk - and I tried to keep my main meals small. I kept a banana/pack of oatcakes by the bed, and even when I didn't feel like it, when I woke up feeling grim, I'd force something down.

Sucking sugar free sweets (mints/M&S butterscotch) also helped, as did getting out for a walk when I could motivate myself off the couch.

Google for other suggestions - I'm sure there are trillions, but ultimately, try to listen to your body and do what feels right for you. It's mainly about endurance at this stage. Try to rest when you can, and fingers crossed, you'll be part of the lucky majority who feel better after the first trimester.

Good luck. x

If you've tried all the normal things (snacking, resting, ginger etc etc) and they don't work, you don't have to continue to suffer...see your GP as there are medications to help, especially if you can't sleep etc Flowers

Congratulations on your pregnancy op.

Sorry it's horrible at the moment. Hope this will pass by the 12-20 week stage. You've got some great advice here already, just to add there is a brilliant support charity out there called pregnancy sickness support. Please use them because this is what they're there for.
Also speak to your gp, I was on cyclizine until quite recently and it was a brilliant help. Although made me drowsy.
There is also a HG support thread on here with tons of help for you.
You're not alone and you can do this! Good luck.

Can you try ice lollies or jelly as another way to get liquids? They really helped.
Fluids are so important so if your GP fobs you off (and a lot of them do) you'll need to be persistent to ensure that you get the best care.
Pregnancy sickness support do a print out to give to your gp so definitely visit their website first.

Oh that's great I'll have a look. I was actually at GP last week and he asked if I had sickness and did I want anything for it? I told him no I'll be fine Shock I've not left my bed since the day after that!

Oh that's hugely positive. A good, knowledgeable GP can make all the difference to your care.
Good luck with your appointment.
