Hi, new to mumsnet.. no idea if I'm posting in the right place, sorry if I'm not.. Just wondered if anyone could help if they have been through the same as me....
35+4 weeks pregnant and been to the midwife today, since last appointment (14 days ago) the baby hasn't grown so she rang up the hospital and made an appointment for tomorrow for an assessment, and said if they agree with her measurements they will have to induce me. Had this happened to anybody else? It all happened so fast i didn't ask any questions so really have no idea what to expect. Any advise would be brill!!!!

They should do a growth scan which will show pretty accurate measurements. The tape measure isn't always accurate. I'm being induced on Tuesday at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia. Try not to worry until after your scan though!

The tape measure is notoriously inaccurate, try not to worry till the scan, not that that is possible, I think either she will be right or it will be not so severe and they will monitor you closely and get the baby out later on. If I was you I would call the maternity assessment unit to see if they want to give you steroid jabs this evening - they do this as a precaution incase they need to get the baby out early, plus they could do a CTG this evening to check heart rate OK etc to put your mind at rest so you can sleep tonight x

Oh so there is still chance that I won't be induced? My head just went when she was talking to me so I didn't really listen much. Really don't want to be induced had such a good pregnancy so far no complications. Hoping on a scan and everything will be fine!!! X

To be induced at 35/40 for reduced growth would be relatively unusual it would have to be significantly reduced and with other concerns. They look at blood flow to baby, resistance in umbilical arteries. Tape measure measurements are often not accurate although generally quite good at picking up smaller babies. Try not to stress about it, always best to be referred and have everything checked. Hopefully baby was just in a funny position

I had the same thing happen at 35 week growth scan showed reduced growth, had one two weeks later at 37 weeks and growth has picked up again. I think it's nothing to worry about they are probably just being on the safe side Smile

I think you should have them a phone and explain your not really sure what's going on, lots of people come out of appointments confused they will be happy to explain what is going on and what you can expect. They wouldn't want you sitting upset and worried.

I had a similar issues at 35 weeks, they did as growth scan then, and repeated if at 38 weeks. All was fine with the more accurate measurements.
