Hi everyone

I'm 4 weeks pregnant and desperately hoping everything is going to go well after a chemical last cycle.

I've recently lost 7 stone in a bid to get healthy and ready for pregnancy however I am still overweight and my bmi is just over 30. However, I have been doing a lot of exercise and I am very fit. I currently do between 11 and 13 classes per week. Generally 5 body pump classes, 4 body combat classes, 2 Grit classes (very high intensity meta fit type class), 1 metafit class and 1 cxworks class (core work). I don't know which classes are safe to continue and how many to do each week. I've read lots online which says if you are fit you can continue with what you were doing but obviously I am doing rather a lot! Any ideas?

Also I know it would be sensible to speak to my instructors but because I am so early on I'd rather wait a bit longer.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

The advice I got from my doctor was don't stop doing anything you're already doing.
Admittedly I was only working out 6-7 times a week (mostly HIIT, circuits and weights).
I'm now 36 weeks and have only just found I need to slow down to 3x a week as my energy levels are a lot less.

After first trimester you need to be more careful about what core work you do though, to avoid diastasis recti post birth.
It's very important to stay hydrated but otherwise go with what you feel comfortable doing.
I've had such an easy pregnancy and I suspect it's down to continuing lots of exercise (or it could be luck!)

Thanks for the advice.

I workout 5 days per week generally doing 2 or 3 classes back to back which I really enjoy. Do you think that's okay?

I'm just terrified to do anything which could jeopardise the pregnancy at such an early stage.

the dangers are
overheating
dehydration
ligament strain

Solutions = Drink plenty, keep cool & don't push yourself very hard. Listen to your body.

Me, I got so much sickness i had to take it easy anyway.

I am a dance teacher and own my own studio.

In my last pregnancy I worked until 7months taking 2 classes a day. I felt fine. Make sure you always have lots of water to hand as you will notice your get more thirsty exercising in pregnancy and listen to your body.

My current pregnancy (am 15 weeks) I am still on leave so I have just been taking my son (5 months) out for long walks and I do attend my dance studio for 3 classes a week but I am not currently the teacher. Again I feel fine with the exercise

I've just spoken to my instructor who has said as long as I am feeling okay I can continue with all my classes except GRIT and Metafit as they are too high intensity and not recommended in pregnancy. So I will continue with the others and just see how I feel.

I think that Cxis also not recommended during pregnancy? I think I read that on the Les Mills website, but I might be wrong...

I carried on with some classes but just took it easier. I did stop grit though as it was too much high intensity, especially cardio ! Strength was okay if I adapted it. I did spin for a while until it became too uncomfortable sitting on the bike !
