Feeling a bit stupid ...

Our first baby is due in July so it might be quite warm (she says hopefully). What should I buy for the first wee while for baby to wear? I know the rule is one more layer than me but what if I'm feeling warm in just a tshirt would I still have 2 layers on baby? Would just a sleep suit be ok in warm weather or would they need a vest under it?

I had my dd in the July of 2013 and it was really hot. We had short sleeve vests and the romper suits with short legs and arms. If it was really hot just the romper. Don't worry too much, you'll get to know what's right and not and if you have a warm /cold baby. Dd is always warm!

My ds was born in July! It's a fab time of the year to have a baby. No dark/cold nights to get through!

Every baby seems to be different. My friends dd was in vests, baby grows and a blanket while my ds was always boiling and was usually in only a vest.

The rule I followed was one layer more than me at night and in the day, I just put him in a vest and baby grow and if he was hot I took a layer off!

Congratulations everyone!

I'm due at the start of August and am wondering what new born babies wear on their feet Grin if he or she is in just a short baby grow do they wear socks or should their feet be bare?

I had my DD in August and it was roasting. She wore vests/baby grows (single layer) depending on how hot it was. Mostly just a short sleeved vest and socks. The 'one layer more' rule didn't work for us - I'm always cold but DD takes after her dad and is a little radiator! To this day she's rarely ever cold and she's 3 now. It's easy to tell if they're too hot or too cold. Socks and mitts are usually a good idea though as their hands and feet are often cold.

I'm due my second in July. I was planning to just get a selection of babygros, vests and footless babygros (think Boots did nice ones last go around) and just play it by ear by feeling baby's chest/neck. Remember that the plasticness of disposable nappies makes babies warm and I reckon on a warm day would more than count as a layer.

Also don't forget your baby should be kept in the shade as much as possible. Tends to feel a bit cooler when not in the direct sun!

I was actually going to ask if a nappy counted as a layer haha.
Blue carrot we don't get much sun here anyway :) haha but yes I hate seeing babies with a tan Sad
