Gender theory pattern?

Lj1991 · 08/02/2016 11:12

Hey my husbands auntie has this gender pattern theory I want to test to see if she's right. She said that you will either follow your mum and dads gender pattern or your oh parents gender pattern for example my grandparents had 3 girls my mum and dad had 2 girls, my OH comes from a BBG pattern and we have a boy so by that it should mean my next would be a boy as I'm following MIL pattern. She said were unable to tell if there have been any losses in between. Hope this makes sense please help me prove her wrong haha x

The odds are 50/50 each time, I think! I've read that the exception is the chances of having another girl after having 2 girls already (sorry, have lost the link to the article but it was a genuine scholarly piece). I think it was found to be 48/52 in favour of another girl, but still near enough to 50/50.

My parents were gb. ILs were bb. We are bg so we haven't followed either. It's random.

We have 2 DS's. This does not follow either my parents or PIL's gender pattern.

Likewise, the gender pattern of my parents does not follow either set of my grandparents. The gender pattern of PILs doesn't follow either set of their parents either.

It's all random.

It's random but my family, and Dh's family are mainly female, by a large majority. Eg... I have 3 sisters and one brother. Dh is an only son and has 3 sisters. I have one uncle and several aunts, as does dh. We have one son and 2 daughters. My brother has 2 daughters, no son. (I could go on)!

I've seen it work with quite a few people in my family like my mum had 2 girls and my grandparents had 3 girls my mums other sister had one girl so I think it works for some but not others maybe a coincidence? It's been driving me mad haha

My mom's parents were b, g, my dad's parents were g, g, b, b, g, b, b, b (I think, I lose track, my two aunts are definitely the eldest). My mom and dad were b, b, g. Pretty sure it's 50/50 each time!

My parents - g b
Oh parents - b b
Us - g g b

Last one always a boy? Confused

Report

My dads parents: g b g b b
My mums parents: g b g
My parents aka us (but they had 2 children each so both my sisters are half sisters) g g (g and another, lost my twin early on)
DHs parents: g b b
Us: g g (well she's due this Friday and they said she's a girl)

So no real correlation except both my grandparents started off with a girl then a boy and both my parents had 2 girls.

Perjhaps that does follow us but think it's purely anecdotal.

Hello - I think I understand this or am I missing something.

It's the guys line that always decides. This is how we ended up righting the post war years. Getting the male quota back up. Sorry haven't got the research doc to hand.

Something in research said about if the male has a sister more likely to have a daughter first or if a brother will have a son but OH family doesn't follow this. So I think pot luck.

Sex closer to ovulation more likely boy further away more likely girl has the 'faster' boys have dies out with slower girls remaining. Obvoiusly there are stories of women ovulating on queue, earlier in cycle than they were meant too. This has been proven by women of armed forces who when the exact time maybe only once before partner went away that they had sex etc.

There are only two sexes and the majority of people only have a small number of children - 'patterns' are bound to repeat often because there aren't that many possible combinations.

What about if you have children by different men/women?

Report
rallytog1 · 09/02/2016 18:26

I think it's nonsense. We've got GG and they're the first pair of sisters on either side of the family in 4 generations.

Report
Lj1991 · 09/02/2016 23:27

I imagine it would reset with a new partner coz they have a different gender background?
