It's me again...

I went in to the hospital the other evening on the advice of my community midwife and after speaking to them on the ward as well. I have had black spots floating in front of my eyes intermittently for the last week/10 days.

They took a urine sample that had a plus of protein in it, so baby was monitored for half an hour and I had to press the button every time he moved. Baby is absolutely fine and kicking around like a professional football player like normal Smile

They took blood tests that came back fine, but told me to take it easy and to watch for headaches and swelling.

This morning I have been trying to shake a headache since I woke up at 6. More sleep and lots of water haven't helped and my ankles are swollen.

Am I being paranoid? They said the word preeclampsia, not me... that the protein and black spots were signs of it. I''m 28 + 3 and 28years old if that is relevant. I am also on my own... DP is a 7 hour drive away thanks to work and is away for a total of 2 months. DM is around 400 miles away. I do have friends etc but I don't want to disturb them unnecessarily.

Is it worth me just keeping an eye on the headache etc? I don't need to go in just now do I.... I could check in on myself again mid afternoon and then give them a call if I am anxious...right?

FWIW, if I thought the baby wasn't moving like normal obviously I would go in straight away, but he is squiggling about in his usual all-over-the-place can-you-guess-where-I'm-going-to-boot-you-next-mummy? kind of way Smile

Hi, If you're having headaches and swollen ankles I would def give them a call now just to be on the safe side.

Please please any change or new symptoms ring them. I had it on both pregnancies, and it wasn't until afterwards when I trained to be a nursery nurse that I realised how serious it could be.
So ring in and tell them, be prepared to be sent in. And good luck.

Sorry but yes, call them!

I was diagnosed at about 28 weeks, refused to believe it as felt fine in myself but protein/high bp. Baby was fine but one day reduced movements then all of a sudden his heartbeat kept dropping and had an emcs at 30+6.

Basically, get yourself checked out- things can happen very quickly and you need monitoring. I didn't believe it at the time but DS now 5 may well not be here if I wasn't being so well monitored!

So you're having the exact symptoms they told you to watch out for and you're wondering if you should call them? Yes call them!!! Do you know how serious preeclampsia can be?!

Call them.

Your BP could go up very quickly - I had it myself in first pregnancy just much later.

I wouldn't risk it at all.

Good luck :)

I had pre eclampsia with my baby, also your age and it started around 30 weeks.
I was monitored daily for the last few months of my pregnancy, and when I hit 37 weeks was induced.
Do not take any risks, you are not an inconvenience and your health comes first along with your baby's. Preeclampsia is dangerous to you too, read up some of the risks. It's not worth delaying.

Sorry, I went back to bed and napped for a while! You're right, I know you're all right, I will give them a call. It's frustrating... I hate this feeling of not wanting to inconvenience anyone even though secretly I'm a bit scared!

With a name like that if you end up in a hospital like the Gwent or the Heath and want a random MN stranger to come a calling let me know.

You're not inconveniencing them. They are literally paid to look after the health of you and your baby. They would be doing their job by looking after you. Now stop being bristish about the whole thing and give them a ring.

I had pre eclampsia in both pregnancies . The second one I spent a month in hospital before they eventually gave me a c section . I had none of the symptoms to start with . As time went on I got more but not all. I was dangerously I'll but they left me to try and keep my baby safe inside me a bit longer ... Please go back and get checked . They took my bloods every morning to check my levels as well as protein in my urine . Can you ask for this ?
