Hi,
Im new to this forum but its seems a good place for advice from those in the know.
I am eight weeks into my pregnancy and visited the doctor three weeks ago to have this confirmed.
She didnt carry out a test as she said the home test i had carried out was sufficient. She said that the midwife would be in touch, but im still waiting.
Im slightly worried as I am 33 and would like to have advice on the screening available - I would like to have a nuchal fold test and have read that this is better before 13 weeks.
I suppose im worried in case it takes some time to arrange scans etc when the midwife does eventually get in touch and i might miss the 13 week deadline.
Is it normal to wait this long or should i get in touch and try to hurry things along.
Thanks for reading this.

Hi joey, welcome to mumsnet

I'm pg (with no. 4) at the moment - now 10+ weeks - and I had my booking in appointment at 8 weeks. I think I was asked about nuchals etc at booking in but I'm not sure as I didn't want them! (I'm 35 btw). I got my appointment in the post yesterday for my 13 week scan - I will in fact be 14 weeks when it happens - and the midwife called to check I received the appointment as they sometimes go astray this time of year.

What I have noticed though is that antenatal care varies drastically from region to region. I am in rural Scotland and the care here is fantastic, but I do know of many people (particularly in parts of London) where they have got to 20 weeks and still not seen a midwife even once!

I would suggest you contact your GP and ask when to expect your midwife to be in touch, and explain about the nuchal scans etc and that you don't want to miss that window. Alternatively you could contact your hospital maternity department and see if you can book directly through them (some places will let you, others insist on the request coming from the midwife).

Hope this helps!

i had my 1st appt at 10 weeks, my surgery wont do them til you are at least 9 weeks. scan date came through pretty quick after that. i would call your surgery, ask receptionist when you should start seeing mw and book an appt. if you dont get the answer you want ask for mw number or leave a message and call back in a couple of days if you hear nothing.

congrats on your pg and wlcome to mn

It is very common not to hear anything in the early weeks. Up until 10+ weeks before a midwife contacts you is fairly usuall. The scan can be arranged fairly quickly and easily so I'm sure you wouldn't miss the "window". If you haven't heard from her by then, give your surgery a call. Try not to worry though, the waiting game plays tricks with all of us. Welcome to MN and to the next 7mths of waiting for the next thing to happen. GOOD LUCK!
