Pregnancy

Bleeding at 5 weeks - really worried

Hi
I'm 5 weeks pregnant and yesterday I had a bit of brown spotting, about the size of 1p. Today I found that I had quite a bit more and it was kind of brownish and when I wiped there was quite a bit on the tissue which was like watery red colour. I went to the docs who said I could go and have a scan which I have just done.. She said that she didn't know why I was bleeding and she could see the sac which was the right size and in the right place but no heartbeat as she thought it was too early to see it still. I am still bleeding now but kind of on and off. I'm so worried, do you any of you know if this is ok or not? Also i'm not feeling at all sick and my boobs feel like they are tiny bit less tender than they were yesterday.

Are they re-scanning you in a week or so to check the heartbeat?
It can be v normal to bleed in early pregnancy, and don't be worried re fluctuation in early pregnancy symptoms, they can be a little up and down.

agree wirth Darrell.......

heartbeat not usually visible until 7 + weeks......a lot of women experience spotting and bleeding in early pregnancy..often the pregnancy does continue....if the bleeding becomes heavier and there is pain and cramping, call them back.

only time will tell, so try to hang on in there.x

with ds i bled from 6w-20w and he was a healthy 9lb2er. spotting is usually down to cervical erosions which are just changes in your cervix. they should scan you at 6-7 weeks to check the heartbeat. i still have a scan pic from 5 1/2w. try to stay positive

Just to echo what everybody else has said- bleeding in early pregnancy is very common. I had a bleed at 7weeks and it was a cervical erosion. Everything was fine and I am currently 20weeks.

You must go back if your bleeding is heavier or you experience any pain.

Good luck to you kittypower.

Thank you for your messages, very reassuring. Since I have got back from the scan the bleeding seems to have stopped. Which is a good sign don't you think? I keep going to loo expecting it to have started again. I have my fingers crossed that it doesn't though.

just to add that I had slight bleeding at 9 weeks and had a scan and there was a small tear but everything was fine.

Pleae can anyone advise - I'm also in the same position as kitty power. I'm 5 wks pregnant and have done two tests which were both positive in the last week. I thought I was due on as I had period pains all of last week and these pains have continued all this week too. I had some slight spotting on tuesday which stopped and then started again today which has carried on till now. Its only very light brown in colour and a relatively small amount. I've still got cramps which are worse today and phoned the midwife who said there was nothing I could do except rest and see what happens. She said its too early for a scan and told me to go to casualty if the pains and bleeding get worse. At what stage should I go as pain is definately worse this afternoon. What can they do for me? I'm soo worried...

is the pain abdominal? any sharp one sided pain, or pain in your shoulder tip, the same side as any sharp pain?

at this point, a scan would not tell you much..heartbeat tends not to be visible until 7 + weeks..

BUT - if you are having bleeding and increased pain, you should seek medical help/..if you are having a miscarriage, it cannot be stopped, but you will at least know what is happening..how terribly worrying for you

abdominal..ie like period pains?

No just period type pains - cramping and pains localised to the pelvic area. Some nausea from the pain. I suffer with painful periods and usually take ponstan or brufren and paracetamol but can't at the moment. No shoulder or back pain and pain doesn't feel particularly on one side just all across the pelvic area. Is this normal do you think or should I be worried about ectopic/miscarriage. Hoping to see GP tomorrow morning just for piece of mind. Worried the pains might get worse overnight tho

spotting is not necessarily a sign of miscarriage, but pain & cramping with spotting can be a sign

can you sleep tonight without seeing a doctor..especially if the pain is getting worse

could call nhs direct

0845 46 47 ..they can give you good advice to, you might be able to get to out of hours GP or might be referred to a&e

i;d call, or it will be a long night

You could go to A&E to make you feel better all though they might not be able to do much. It might put your mind at ease though.

I bled at 8 weeks. My midwife said that the pregnancy hormones in early pregnancy sometimes struggle to withold a 'period'.
