What to expect at a 37 week Midwife appointment?

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what happens at a 37 week midwife appointment? My daughter was born before i had one with my previous pregnancy.

I have one just after dinner today and want to know if they will examine my cervix or not, just so i know if I should ask my MIL to have my daughter. Smile

According to the sheet in my maternity notes, they won't go near my fanjo til the 40 week appt where they will offer me a sweep. If I choose not to have one they won't do anything other than usual check of urine, weight, blood pressure and bump size.

I dont think I will have sweeps if i go to 40 weeks! I left my notes in my husbands car so couldnt check them... Midwife may not be impressed!

I haven't had any cervical exams yet. I had my 40-week appointment this morning (well, am at 39+5 today) and it wasn't even mentioned as an option. I am scheduled for an optional sweep at 40+5...I'll see how I'm feeling at that point. I haven't pressed for a cervical exam because I don't think they are a good indication of imminent labour. You can be 3+ cm dilated for weeks or go from 1-10 in a day. I'd rather avoid one if they're not really necessary. At my appointment this morning all they did was urine test, belly measure, heartbeat check, and palpated my pelvis area to see how far down she is (she is WAY down!).

I have never had any internals at any midwife appointments and my 2 were both 10 days late.
