No heartbeat at 6weeks scan

Hi, I've just been for a private scan at 6 weeks 2 days. They saw the sac, and the Foetal pole (?) but it was only estimated to be 1mm in size and there was no heartbeat. Has anyone else had no heartbeat at such an early scan and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

6 weeks is borderline for seeing a HB, is there an EPU whet you are,? Another scan in a week would be your best option. I know from my own experience just how long a wait that is at this stage, especially when you're fearing the worst.

We had that, and again at seven and eight weeks. She's now 11.

Agree with north 6 weeks is quite early. What did the scanner say?? All of my (NHS) early scans have been at 7/8 weeks because of this.

I had this, they got me back ten days later, still no heartbeat, then ten days later again because my bloods were getting higher in the hormone and there was the faintest, tiniest little flicker and that was around 8/9 weeks xx

At seven weeks I saw a heartbeat both times, but six weeks can be too early.

Thanks all. They have offered me another scan in a week. Everything looked fine, saw everything they needed to - except a heartbeat. I'm still feeling sick/tired/sore boobs so trying to focus on that being a positive,
I have a feeling this is going to be the longest week of my life.....

I'm kind of in the same position had a scan at around 4wks as got pregnant on the coil then again a week later and they saw a sac/yolk and the start of a foetal pole but as I'm/their not sure how far I am I'm back this Thursday for another scan.

I had a similar experience, sadly it did not end well for me. I was supposed to be 6+2 but the sac and fetal pole measured 5+4 with no heartbeat. I was rescanned a week later (longest week of my life) and there was progress and a heartbeat. Still small for dates though. Sadly it was not meant to be, and I miscarried a week later.

I'm sure your story will have a happy outcome but whilst you're waiting for your follow up scan make sure you keep busy and use these boards for support. I'm now 39 weeks with a baby I fell pregnant with three months after my miscarriage, so even if things don't work out for you this time there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Let us know how you get on Flowers

My first scan at 6 weeks with my previous pregnancy there was no hb. A week later there was one, I now have a healthy 20 month old!

Are they rescanning?
This pregnancy I had a scan at 6weeks. There was no hb and I was a measuring 5 weeks. 2 weeks later I was measuring 8 weeks (back to normal dates) and baby had a hb.. I'm now 36+5 weeks!

But I've had 2 bad outcomes before my two good ones. One of them I had a bleed around 6 weeks baby had a healthy hb but I miscarried within the week and the pregnancy after baby didn't have a hb and 2 weeks later there still wasn't one. I had a D&C.

It can go either way. I had 2 bad outcomes and then 2 good.

My last pregnancy (2 years ago - I have fertility problems, I'm 40 and I really feel this is my last chance) ended in miscarriage at about this stage. I'm desperately trying to stay positive and your stories are helping, but I just don't 'feel' it any more. But I could be wrong. Please let me be wrong. Being rescanned next Saturday.

On a positive note, I'm 6+2 by my dates, and they measured me as 6+1, so at least our dates are kind of matching....

Hi OP, EPU always told me 6+4 was the minimum for seeing a heartbeat. If your sizes match, that's great!

Too early. I went to the FMC with both and they said earliest 7 wks. Just causes unnecessary worry if you do to earlier. Hope all well. FWIW I'm 40 and 33 wks with DS2. DS1 came just after my 39th! Age just a number ;-) I say that now! Best of luck X

Hi ladies
Im going through the same thing I have irregular periods due to pcos and stage 3 endometriosis. I have been bleeding for weeks on and off now sometimes pink sometimes brown sometimes bright red and had no symptoms apart from a head ache and mood swings.
I went for en emergency scan yesterday and they said baby was measuring at 6 weeks but was very small. They said they could see the yolk sac and blood around the sac but no heart beat and saod to go back in 10 days I am going out of my mind at the moment I had a chemical preganncy too beginning of November and haven't had a period since so I couldn't really tell them when my last period was
If you have any advise to put my mind at rest I'd be grateful the blood in the sack and no heart beat is really playing havock with my mental health and I habe a toddler and a disabled 5 year old.and its making me.feel like im just gonna push them away over all the anxiety x
