Pregnancy

If you had a proper large bump at 12 weeks

I have a proper, impossible to hide bump at 12 weeks. My belly sticks out farther than my (recently enormous) boobs and is shaped like a pregnancy belly. All my clothes now are maternity clothes. This is my third baby. I am sure I look as pregnant as I did at 5 months with my first.

If this has happened to you, did your bump stay about this size for a while? I figure this can't be the baby because the baby is still tiny. This my body recognising what is going on and giving up without a fight. This is a lazy body. I can't keep getting bigger at this rate or I won't be able to walk by 40 weeks.

I was like that with all of mine. At 5/6mths I looked like other mums who were 9mths along but then bump sort of plateaued even though babies continued to grow I think just inwards Grin.

Yes, I think your body surrenders earlier the more pregnancies you have!

But all the science stuff says that the actual baby doesn't really grow out of your pelvis until the 12-14 week point. So it might just be where you carry bloat (in which case you might stay steady for quite a while as it subsides and the baby grows). Or of course it might be twins....

I started showing at 8 weeks and just kept growing and growing until she was born at 37. I had serious water retention though and was carrying a lot of amniotic fluid. At 36 weeks the midwife could t actually find my baby because there was just too much water. I looked like a big sausage.

I honestly had a bump at 5 weeks this time, a noticeable one at that to my friends and family, to people I didn't know just looked like a bit of a beer belly! by 12 weeks even the sonographer commented on the size of my bump already! its not twins! now 21 weeks!

2nd pregnancy :)

I'm on third pg too - at 12 weeks had big belly, had to wear maternity clothes but felt a bit fat/flabby/bloated. Now at 26weeks I have a nice neat-ish 'proper' bump that measures right for dates apparently and looks similar to how I did in first pg (dont have photos of second and can't remember!)

If past experience is anything to go by though, by 9 months I will be the size of a house...

Second pregnancy here - was out of all my clothes at 8 weeks and was convinced it was twins, but apparently there's only one in there.
At my 12-week scan I was a similar size to how I was at my 20-week scan, in my first pregnancy.
Now 38 weeks and measuring spot on for dates, but have pit on double the amount of weight I did last time Hmm

Third baby here and the bump was in the way from about 8 weeks- or so it seemed.

I'm 38 weeks now and it's pretty massive. I took a photo a couple of weeks ago, I'll see if I can find it.

I was 35 weeks in this photo.

I had a bump at 12 weeks, but then I did have twins!

Argh, you're scaring me! I'm huge, and I'm only about 11 weeks. Twins run on both sides of our families, so I keep getting jokes about there being more than one in there. Will find out on Monday when I have my scan...

Aww maisie you look sweet your bump isnt huge and the rest of you is very trim please dont say that was your 2nd or 3rd pregnancy you look amazing!

op im stupidly on baby 5 right now with the previous 4 i showed at 6 months, but this one was before 12 wks. I was mega bloated too and couldnt suck stomach in if i tried lol. Id go bed huge in morn it would have gone down a bit. I did think o had twins i wss ferociously hungry every 30 mins.sonographer said "no not unless its hiding because yoir baby is in same position wont move". Its been lying horizontal since the first scan.

Ive just ordered maternity clothes now at 23 wks but i needed it long ago just had no money . However i dont feel like my bump is getting bigger anymore but the baby is continuing to grow. Right now i dont care i just want the labour out the way.

dont fret op the bump will slow down or eventually you will just go with it and not care.

I had a bump at 13wks, even earlier. The shape changed from the very beginning. My first baby but think some bodies just show, my skin has always been soft & stretchy, also on the slim side, unsure if that makes a difference. I am the type of person who looks preganant when they have wind.

I was wondered too when I was 13wks as some people would post saying they had no bump at all. Started to think twins but I'm with a singlet :).

I wouldn't be able to guess as to why this one is different from your other preganancys, wonder if it's what another mumsnetter has said, in that your body is more set up for it.

Happy bumping! x

Grin thanks katarzyna it's my third baby but what I was trying to say to the OP- in a not very clear way- was that I kept expecting my bump size to plateau for a while but it really just started showing at 8 weeks and then just kept growing!

Wow doodle and show!

Every time my mother sees me she shakes her head and says "you won't go to the end, you couldn't" - she said that last time too and I went to 39+4 Confused

All these people posting their 30+wk bump pictures. I'll try and look out a pic but that's what I looked like at 25wks

Nope. Just kept growing and remained fucking colossal throughout. Was as big as the twin bumps posted here, with a singleton. People were consistently astonished when I told them how far I had to go. Agree with posters upthread saying your body basically surrenders earlier! And yes, I could barely walk by the end. Thankfully baby arrived at 39 weeks, though I was convinced I couldn't possibly get anywhere near term.

I'm 12 weeks and showing. Thank goodness it is winter and I can wear super baggy jumpers.
I put maternity jeans on at 10 weeks, and it was like stepping into heaven!
This is my third also. I have concluded that I have the worlds biggest uterus and no stomach muscles to be found xx

You can only compare if you have before and afters unless you had a washboard stomach before.

It's all water and bloat, as PP said the uterus doesn't come out until 12-14 weeks.

I love when people think they are massive- wait until the day you go into labour.
