I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Here we are. Cyber cushions, a row of ahem - sparkling loos even - on offer. At least this commute was short!
Once aMeer Poppieand others, I can't add to the great reassurance already given, but don't worry, doctors would not think of prescribing meds that were in any way risky for the baby.

Hi everyone, just marking a place here! Hi all the new people, I'm sorry that you're suffering but v glad you found this place, it was such a lifesaver to me when I was bad.

Am nearly 30 weeks (on Monday) which is v exciting although I've found that the nausea is beginning to creep back up. I think maybe because there's so little space in there! No voms as of yet. 6 more working weeks to go.

Icant, so sorry to hear about your strep throat - agreed with ealli it's likely because you're so run down. I've been picking up things much more than I usually would. I also really want to give people evils on the tube when they're sitting they're clearly unwell rather than staying at home! I know not everyone has that option but spreading your germs around isn't helpful.

Squeezed, jeez 7 hours in traffic - that's awful when you're not pregnant and sick. Hope you can have some downtime over the weekend.

[hugs all around to those suffering]

Can I please join?

I am 14+4 with MCDA twins. Have suffered morning sickness since 4 weeks. I have been prescribed cyclizine which helped to begin with and now doesn't - it now comes up too!

Was signed off work for 8 weeks recently returned and still being sick twice every morning before and at work.

I suppose the only good thing is that I lost 16lbs in the first trimester!

Looking forward to trying any tips/tricks! x

Morning all and thanks for the new thread Lucinda! I'm now 3 days overdue and still being sick most days (sorry if that's not what some of you want to hear!) but it truly is better than it was in the first/second trimesters so take heart! Flowers for everyone!!

Just dashing on to place mark. Will catch up with everyone properly later. Nice to hear from Barmee and Bugista. TwoDrifters, the waiting is really tough but at least the end is now definitely in sight. Can't wait to hear of your arrival in the Pink Castle!

poppie that you're still being so sick suggests you need to try different meds; remind me what you're on?

Also poppie if a nice calm response doesn't work,I'm all for onceameers advice of spewing on feet.

sock I'm delighted you're being given ondansetron; it made the world of difference for me. Glad you didn't have trouble getting it. Be aware that there is potentially unpleasant side effect of constipation; eat what fruit you can - tinned peaches kept me flowing, as it were.

goldglitter I'd suggest speaking to your gp re different meds. Are you able to keep any food or drink down?

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 07/01/2016 15:48

sock glad to hear you're on ondansetron already.

bugista lovely to hear you've got to 30 weeks already. the n + v does creep back a bit for some people and it's a strain, but it'll never be as bad as at first. And the end isn't -that- far away now ... not really :)

goldglitter congrats on your twins! I'm sorry, what does MCDA mean? If the cyclizine isn't helping enough (it probably is helping a bit) , maybe promethazine would be better. It's an antihistamine too but stronger. Some people get sleepy with it, others don't or the effect wears off. It could well be worth asking the doctor for.

Are you getting enough to drink? ice chips (perhaps flavoured, perhaps not) can help, or drinking through a straw, or very hot or very cold liquids. High-water-content foods include watermelon and cucumber.

twodrifters, urging the your little Passenger to disembark here!

My hyperemesis is creeping it's way back at 27 weeks. Been getting progressively worse for the last couple of weeks. I'm gutted as I hoped it was gone and I've enjoyed being able to do a little more with my daughter. Now most days I'm feeling exhausted and sick and with still 12 weeks to go until due date I feel very guilty that I'm not able to give her the time and attention she deserves. 8 weeks left at work. I hope I can keep it at bay enough to cope at work.
Twodrifters I hope your baby makes an appearance soon so you can get yourself feeing better.

Welcome to GoldGlitter (another nice name). Twins, that's exciting; if it's any comfort, most of the people expecting twins on here do seem to suffer badly at first but then it seems to go off earlier than average - which seems to indicate that if they were expecting a singleton they wouldn't get Hyperemesis, it's that double dose of hormones that tips them over the edge. I don't know what MCDA twins means, either; does it mean 'identical'? I think if you are bringing up the meds now, you need stronger meds; you won't be prescribed anything that could possibly be harmful if you have any worries about that, so don't hesitate to ask if you could have something else. Possible bearable foods and drinks people on here have found: ice lollies, jelly, cheap ice cream, nibbles of crisps, sips of flat coke, tinned gruit and juice of tinned fruit, soda water, ice cubes. For some reason, sweet or salty unhealthy stuff (some can stand MacDonald's) is the only foodstuffs or drinks that seem bearable generally.
Bugista and Heavenscent Oh dear, I am sorry that you are suffering again. It does seem to happen to some and as OnceaMeer says, it never seems to be anything like as bad as in the first tri. I remember in the last tri the heartburn was fierce enough again to set off puking sometimes. It is a long haul.
TwoDrifters I really feel for you.
I hope Reebok is OK.
Ican't. Oh dear. I hope it clears up as soon as possible. How dismal for you this pregnancy is.
Poppie I so agree with others, if you are being sick as often as that you need additional or new meds.
Madrigal I hope you continue to feel a bit better?
NeedAsockamnesty I am glad you've got Ondansetron. As you have suffered badly before, I take it that you are dismally familiar with its side effects of tied up bowels, and are investing in some of those suppository things. Or maybe the GP prescribed that stuff - is it 'lactulose', which is said to be very effective.
Waves to OnceaMeer and eallison.
Apologies if I've cross posted with anyone.

It is very disheartening. At the moment I'm just praying that as onceameer and lucinda say it won't get as bad again as it was. I don't want to be wishing my pregnancy away. I'd like to enjoy it!
Bugista I'm sorry you're feeling more sick too. It hardly seems fair lol.

heaven how awful :(

are you taking cyclizine at least? It really, really is safe (its sister drug is the only anti-nauseant in the american FDA category A list, which is the list for meds safe to use in pregnancy. A is pretty well -guarenteed- safe).

If it might help, do try. It might help both your energy with your daughter and in keeping your stamina from draining any further.

squeezed, rest well

Hi I was on ondansetron but can only get it from my hospital which is an hour and a half round trip so weaned myself off it when my sickness eased. I managed a few days without it then went back on it over Christmas but have run out now so got some cyclizine from the gp but it only just takes the edge off it Sad I think it might be a trip back to the hospital for me next week to get more ondansetron and hope that will work a lot better. I didn't really want to be on the ondansetron still. At my last consultant appointment I was told I should start cutting it down.

Hi all, so shattered and nauseous after another long day...roll on 3.30 tomorrow! Doing a full day so wish me Luck! Baby has decided to camp out down below So she's causing me so much pain...it honestly feels like she has tools and is trying to dig her way out. Really scared about preterm labour especially after my scare in December. Only 24 weeks tomorrow.

Welcome goldglitter. Sorry you're suffering but you're in the right place! Lots of supportive ladies who have all been/are going through it.

Sock great to hear you're on ondansetron. I'm on it and side effects means lots of headaches and constipation....unfortunately I'm one of the unlucky ones who have to use enemas to have a bowel movement. More recently I'm able to go with suppositories. Might be worth investing in although some swear by lactulouse or fibergel (or something like that!) Spandau can give you the name.
Bugista and Barmee I'm so jealous that you're both finishing work soon! I have until the end of March...don't feel like I'm going to make it.

Heaven sorry to hear you're suffering again. I can't seem to get off the ondansetron. Makes me worse if I cut down....could gp not give your something else to take the edge off? I agree reflux makes it worse so if you have it, get omprezole if you're not already on it. Much better than ranitidine!

Waves to everyone else. Hope everyone is surviving. Another day almost done ladies. We can do it!

Ps two...fingers crossed baby appears soon...

Hi reebok sorry to hear you have had a scare. Try and take it easy if possible. I am on ranitidine. Unfortunately I have a severe allergy to omeprazole so that's a no go. Hoping to make it into work tomorrow as I've already been off sick for six weeks and I doubt they will be pleased if I'm off again but feeling so poorly in not convinced I'll get there. If I don't I'll try and get to the gp for something different.
Thanks for the promethazine suggestion onceameer. I'm not sure if I've had that. I had something blue, cyclizine and buccastem in the early days but ondansetron was the only thing that reduced the sickness. I will query it with the gp if I end up there instead of at work.

Hi everyone, sorry just another quick message from me. I will come back and catch up with everyone when I am not on the iPad. Feeling a bit more human today - I think the iv ondansetron and fluids stabilised me again so hoping that this particular flare up will end soon. Utterly exhausted though so off to sleep now. Hoping for a quiet day for everyone tomorrow. Thanks
