Hyperemesis is getting worse again :(

Hi I suffered horribly with hype reeked is between weeks 4 and 16. Got slightly better for a few weeks then I had probably 2 weeks where I felt OK and didn't need any tablets. Now at 27 weeks I've spent the last two days on the verge of vomiting although thankfully have managed not to so far. I'm so scared my hyperemesis is coming back as this is the worst I've felt in a while and I still have 13 weeks until my due date Sad

I bet you have been doing too much with it being Christmas etc.

Tiredness makes it much, much worse. Also, you may be anaemic and that makes you feel dreadful anyway.

I am a veteran of HG. I was admitted to hospital and needed IV fluids at 38 weeks in my last pregnancy. I was desperate to go into labour - the sickness didn't stop until the baby was actually out.

My advice to you would be to rest, take the tablets, try to eat small amounts regularly, keep hydrated and get you Hb checked.

Thanks for your reply. I will try and get as much rest as I can. Really hope it helps. I'm struggling to drink but persevering as I really don't want to get as sick as I was again.

Try ice lollies - I found they eased the nausea and you do absorb quite a bit of water.

I also found clear soup more palatable than drinks.
Anything "wet" like jelly, custard or similar if you can stand it.

I found sparkling water easier to keep down than still.

I can't drink it now though - it takes me back to that awful, sick feeling.

My HG lasted the entire pregnancy. I was on meds until I gave birth.

It's a myth that it clears up after 12weeks. Mine worsened at 12weeks, was bad until 25weeks when it eased a bit though I still vomited 2-3x day every day.

Get some ondansetron from GP? It's the most effective medication. Get signed off work. Try to rest and sip ice cold drinks, try thickened drinks, eat whatever you can. Stay in bed if possible. Lower your expectations re feeling better, HG is unpredictable and often doesn't improve until at least 20weeks. Check your ketones too.

Good luck!

Just realised you're 27weeks not 12. It's normal to relapse in 3rd trimester. At least not long to go now!

I do hope it doesn't come back for the whole third trimester! I have ondansetron. I will have to see if I can get some more but it means a trip to the hospital so that's about an hour and a half round trip. Still if needs must.
