Hi, this is my first night home after delivering twins and they just don't seem to be settling. Does anyone have any advice?? Thanks

How old are they? Do you have a partner?

My starting point would to let each twin sleep on the chest of one of you until bedtime.

Congratulations.

Are you breastfeeding or bottle feeding?

Congratulations, I have twins too and remember the first night home well!

In sure my boy was unsettled for the first few nights. I found a Cocoonababy very helpful.
Feeding ok?

Just to say - if you've read books, or watched tv programmes, or just generally imbibed popular culture, you think you 'settle' the babies and then they sleep to the next feed. In their moses basket. The vast, vast majority of normal babies do not do that.

DS didn't sleep in any way independently for the first three months. Now a lot of babies will settle in a moses basket before that, but that's well within normal. Very few do in the first week or two of life.

Thanks everyone, they are 11 days old. Left the hospital today with me, this was due to me having Hellp Syndrome and other complications found at emergency csection. They have been fed but unsettled all day.

How were the hospital settling them?

I'm going to bed now but just thought I'd share a few things before as you haven't come back yet:

White noise - can be found on YouTube, on iPhone apps etc I found really helpful settling my twins. Coming from a noisy hospital to home I think they liked some background noise. There's a teddy called Ewan the dream sheep who settled my twins brilliantly - you can get them off Amazon next day delivery!! But you could try YouTube or your phone tonight to see if it works.

Feeding - I bottle fed, every 3 hours, would even set my alarm in the early days to make sure they had it but mine were low birth weights and prone to low blood sugar levels so I had to really. Winding took as long as feeding them!! Infacol helps with the winding but check when it can be used from, I think it's birth but check.

Hope you have an ok night. The first few weeks are hard work, sleep when you can - no visitors in the mornings so you can rest!! Good luck!

Great thanks, I'm bottle feeding them , hopefully that's them just settled. They were in neonatal due to catching my infection so only had them one night ( in the ward) last night and they were fine.

I'm ok, need to go back to hospital for iv drip each day but better than staying in, was in there for 2 weeks and also intense care.

I feel for you, we stayed in for 4 days and that was bad enough. I didn't sleep in there at all. You should get a visit from your health visitor now your home so hopefully she can advise you of anything you're not too sure about.
