Insomnia?

Anyone?

I can't work out why! I go to bed completely exhausted and fall asleep straight away, as soon as I hit 2am I'm wide awake! I usually wake up feeing dizzy and incredibly nauseous but would this wake me up?

Is this normal? Anyone else had experience of it?
Im normally such a good sleeper too!

5am, been up for 3 hours and due to get up in 1 hour! hey ho!

I had that when pregnant... seems to have carried on though! Maybe try going to bed abit earlier, then at least when you wake at 2am, you'll have had more sleep...

depends how far gone you are - if you're sleeping on your back you may be cutting off blood supply hence the dizziness. You're suposed to try & sleep on your side.

I had terrible insomnia after about 20 wks - uterus was constricting my diaphragm (I'm quite little & ds was quite large) - + hormones doing silly things to your moods.

might also be baby moving that triggers you waking.

also dizziness when getting up could be caused by low blood pressure, try & keep well hydrated & mention it to your doc./midwife

Quootiepies - not crappy at all!

Thank you for the advice! I am only at the beginning of my pregnancy so wonder if its a hormonal thing maybe?

Seems it has happened again though! 4.23am!

myfairone - bearer of feel good comments!
I'm getting the sleep thing as well, feel like when i go to bed i could sleep for days then 2am hits and am WIDE AWAKE! I'm usually dead to the world when i sleep, but pregnancy seems to completely take charge of my body, everythings on beans terms! How like it's mother it already is! How far into your pregnancy are you? Is this your first?
Just found out that my cousin who had the baby - 10lbs2oz! She's called Mia Elizabeth and looks just like her older sister did.

Myfairone, i am 28 weeks and have just started suffering from insomnia. it's a nightmare - you're completely shattered but your mind is racing. I felt very breathless last night too and my heart seemed to be pounding, although i was fine. Are there any natural/herbal remedies that are OK to take in pregnancy?

I suffer from insomnia even when not pregnant but it is even worse when I am pregnant, the only advice I can give is to get up and do something read,TV,MN,walk round the house anything because it will only get worse if you try and fight it by lying in bed.

I was sortimng out my washing at 2am this morning!

Lwatkins - always glad to be of assistance!
I am 8 weeks pregnant and already feel like everything on 'its' terms! hehehee
Glad to hear about your cousin - that was quite some weight huh!? wow!

I have never suffered from insomnia so am trying a new technique tonight. Its called 'stay awake as long as you can no matter how heavy your eye lids are'! lol...
Will let you all know at 3am if it worked!

Ettena, sorry to hear you are suffering from it too. Maybe we should start an early morning club. You can bet that if we were supposed to be online at a certain time we would be too sleepy to make it - oh how i wished reverse psychology would work with my brain!

Kernowcat - Hello!

Pedilia - Nice to hear you are making good use of your insomnia! I did my ironing this morning and even enjoyed it! Now how sad is that?!

Have a great nights sleep everyone...Hope to see you tomorrow after 8am!

Well my cousions diabetic and they had induced her like, 3 weeks early! Could you imagine the weight of the baby if she had carried to full term - ouch! Good job she had a c section, the thought of giving birth natuarlly to a baby that big makes me shudder - im only 5'2!
An early morning club for poor mums to be suffering with freakin insomnia sounds good! Should start a new thread for it, 'the breakfast club part deux'!

Here I am logging on in the middle of the night and this is the first thread I see! You are not alone . I am only 12 weeks atm, had it right at the beginning like you, it went away, now it's back. Insomnia was the bane of my last pg too. Aargh. Am now testing the get up and do something theory.
Myfairone with any luck your stay up late as you can method is working and you're sleeping.

I am 35 weeks and have been having the same problem although mine is that I can't get to sleep and then once I do sleep, I'm awake every hour for at least half an hour. SOOOOOOOO frustrating!

I have taken to having a bath with the lights off and lots of tea lights dotted around the bathroom about 8pm, then coming downstairs and reading a book (TV seems to stimulate me) and then go to bed with DH when I am tired, not chat too much in bed and turn light off.

Also have the window open a crack to let some fresh air in.

Worth a shot xx

Well, the 'stay up as long as you can till your eyes droop' method - DOES NOT WORK!

I went to bed at 11.30 (real late for me!) and woke up every hour past that! I wondered if the internet was too stimulating for me and so tried 'The Devil Wears Prada' book, that seemed to be too stimulating too as I seemed to read half the damn book!

So, now i have resigned myself to the fact that I am officially a 'night owl'!

At least I am not alone! I guess we could start a 'middle of the night club'!

Had enough energy to do my tree this morning and now sitting down because have become nauseous and dizzy! Gotta love the hormones!

Merry Christmas

Myfairone - your post made me LOL cos I have been reading 'Devil Wears Prada' book and it was way to stimulating - I dreamt all night that I was Miranda's assistant and kept waking up every half hour with cold sweats!! Hee hee.

(Am now reading Jane Green - The Other Woman - FANTASTIC book about woman with nightmare MIL)

Wilkie50 -thanks for the tip - no doubt I shall need an endless supply of books to get me through the night!

Podmog you poor thing! I have no idea how I would cope with 3 children and a lack of sleep. At least right now all i have to worry about is my dog and my dh!

Heres hoping we all get a good night tonight!

The thing is, nothing seems to work consistently. Sometimes staying up late does seem to work for me and sometimes not. The other night I got up, made some tea and came on here for an hour as it had worked well a few nights before. But after going back to bed it still took over an hour to get to sleep again.
Then last night I was headed for a good night's sleep I think, when poor DD woke me up being sick. We co-sleep andd I will spare you the details . Managed to drop off again pretty quick though, funnily enough.

I have to agree, nothing is consistent! I tried not turning on the pc incase i got too involved!

I actually resorted to sleeping in the spare room last night as I was sure it was my DH's fault! Still didnt sleep...would have been so nice to have blamed him too

Well I seem to have cracked the insomnia! Are you ready?....you get up and eat!

Past two nights I woke up feeling so sick so nibbled on a ginger biscuit and managed to get back off to sleep!

of course this doesnt bode well for my ever expanding waistline but sleep is important right?
