Pregnancy

Can I eat this...

Works Xmas party tomorrow; pre-ordered before finding out I was pregnant.

Dessert is chocolate torte...I know that this can be made using raw eggs so wondering if it is safe to eat?

Probably over-thinking things but don't want to put pregnancy at risk (previously had mc so trying to not do anything "wrong" this time)

Can you swap it with a colleague? After all, you've been getting a bad reaction to eggs recently, right?

Though tbh as long as they used lion stamped eggs I can't get too worked up about it. I understand your anxiety (been there!) but the likelihood of you getting salmonella from a chocolate torte is quite low. Smile

I wouldn't think twice about eating it. It's fine.

It will probably have been cooked. Why not contact them and ask in advance

Ask at the restaurant, when I was a restaurant manager we always used to make a few more of every meal incase people forgot their order or had a change in requirements - we had a raw egg custard dessert once and had to swap it for crumble for a couple of pregnant guests Smile people choose their meals like 6 months in advance and always forget their pre order.

I'd eat it, but if it gives you peace of mind contact the restaurant first. At least then you might be able to swap rather than being left with no pudding!

Thanks for responses...the contact person at the restaurant is a friend (and I'm only 8wks pg so not telling anyone yet- don't want to swap with any work colleagues either for same reason).

I know it will probably be alright but I might just eat the fruit/ice cream it comes with and then say I'm too full to eat anything else- shouldn't be too unbelievable after a starter and main!

Just hope that this, combined with not drinking and constant fear of being sick, doesn't "out" me!

Why not get someone else to ring the restaurant, say they're coming in for a Christmas meal and ask about the dessert? They don't have to say when they're coming in, just that they know they've ordered the chocolate torte.
