I've just got out of the bath and noticed my nipples are leaking quite a bit of bright orange liquid, I assumed it was colostrum but is it supposed to be BRIGHT orange?! Blush

Am 32+1

It is. You started early (compared to me) probably means you will have a really good supply (or I didn't notice!)

That's odd. See your gp I would say.

Sorry I should have probably put a TMI warning!!

Would text my midwife buts she's off till the 16th

I have a pump and storage bags, do I need to store this? Or will it just keep coming?

Hmmm, mine is no darker than custard yellow, usually more like cream (I'm 35 weeks). You could always ring the midwife/maternity hub and ask over the phone if you're unsure. I'd ask them rather than a GP as they're more specialised.

Another name for it is liquid gold. If you're brave taste a bit, if it's sweet then you're fine Wink

I think (hope!) it's normal. I leaked quite a bit of colostrum at that stage, and it was often pretty orange, I have a good milk supply now so maybe the two are linked Smile

Oh and no need to pump and store, it will keep coming until your milk comes in a few days post birth. In fact I think I read whilst I was pregnant that the nipple stimulation from pumping isn't the best idea towards the end of pregnancy as it triggers hormones to stimulate the uterus! You could collect it in syringes though, to use if baby doesn't latch immediately, this is how I initially fed my DD in hospital.

La Leche League

'Your breasts produce colostrum beginning during pregnancy and continuing through the early days of breastfeeding. This special milk is yellow to orange in color and thick and sticky.'

So you're fine Grin

If you google colostrum and go to images, most are custard yellow but one or two are the pics are very orange. So I wouldn't worry.

Thanks all, very reassured my nipples aren't going to fall of due to some nasty disease Grin

I've been having it since 22 weeks. Mine's bright yellow though.
