Pregnancy

Bleeding 2nd Tri

I have had two major bleeds in the last week with spotting in between. I was admitted to hospital both times and kept in because they thought I was about to miscarry. The Midwife even explained in detail what would happen. However, scans have shown that baby is fine and the bleeding has eventually lessened. I had period type pain at the time but more of an ache than cramps.
All tests have come back clear, they say its not the cervix as too much blood to be that, we have not had sex so its not that.
Does anyone have any experience or ideas of what could be happening? I am not 'viable' yet and have become very stressed and upset by this.

I was discharged from hospital yesterday after a major bleed on Monday. I was told I'd had a placental haemorrhage. Any bleeding in pregnancy is terrifying, sorry you're going through it. How many weeks are you?

where is your placenta? at your scans have they mentioned that it is lying low? Low placentas often cause bleeds, I've had 2 so far this pregnancy.

rest as much as you can - are you still in hospital or are you home?

I'm 17 weeks, came home today. They checked placenta on scan and it was OK.

I am scared, keep replaying things in my head, terrified to go toilet in case there is blood.

Sorry its happening to you too Battleships.

I think bedrest is the most sensible thing. If you have any more bleeding just go straight back to hospital. Sometimes it's just unexplained. This is my 3rd and worse bleed this pregnancy. I had one at 15 weeks, one at 19 weeks and this one was at just over 23 weeks. I've just turned 24 weeks yesterday and thought I'd feel a bit more reassured but I don't! They gave me steroids and told me it's a possibility he would be here before the week was up. It's so scary. Just try to take it as easy as you can. I am not going to do a thing, total resting for me. I hope everything goes ok for you. Flowers

Can someone take the children to give you a break. I've plonked myself in bed and I'm refusing to move! My ds is 8 though so is quite good at entertaining himself and DH has been good too. My dsis bled throughout her whole pregnancy, they never knew why but she was induced at 39 weeks. Her ds is now 21. I've sworn this is my last pregnancy! I had blood clots in both lungs at 11 weeks so I'm on blood thinners which may have contributed to my bleeding. It's a good sign if your LO is fine. One doctor told me because you have more blood especially in the pelvis area during pregnancy bleeding is not uncommon. Even a long walk can set something off! Hopefully it should ease off for you now.

My husband helps as much as he can, but he works so can't be around long term and I don't really have anyone else. This will be my last pregnancy too!!! How are you feeling now? X

I haven't been too bad today. Caught a terrible cold in hospital though so my nose is pouring and throat killing! I keep checking myself but had no more bleeding for now. How are you doing? Hope you've managed to get some rest. X

Bleeding in 2nd trimester is not normal. Not meant to scare you, but I would suggest you request to see the obstetrician assigned to you by your maternity unit. Big bleed increase your risk of infection. I had a big bleed in 6 weeks and 16 weeks, soaking through sanitary pad in a few minutes. I also have spotting in between, on and off. I didn't have any pain throughout my pregnancy, but unknown to me that I had bacteria vaginosis which ended up ascending upwards and infected my placenta. I found out that my baby was gone when I went for a scan at 18 weeks as I started to have a bit of blood clot despite bleeding slowing to spotting. It is not an experience I want anyone to go through. If they have done blood work on you ask for a copy of report. I found out afterwards that when I bled I already had infection as my white blood cell and red blood cell counts were way out of range, yet the hospital still send me home. I would have challenged them to do something have I seen the report at the time. Make sure you change your sanitary pad regularly and loose clothing. Sanitary pad and tight clothing are perfect breeding place for bacterial and I suspect that was what caused the bacterial vaginosis.

Good luck and fingers crossed.
