I'm off out in half an hour.

First time since I found out. No-one knows I am pg but I will be bought drinks.( that kind of party)

So the question is

HOW MUCH ALCOHOL CAN I DRINK?

I am 6 weeks. Plan to drink Coke and tell people it has vodka in but if they offer to buy me a drink what shall I do.

hmmmmmmm - controversial. Some people say 1 - 2 units a week is fine, some people say none at all ... if someone offers to buy a drink ask for a soft drink and say you had an alcoholic one during the last round ... no-one will know you aren't drinking

some people say none at all in pregnancy

some say moderate drinking after the first trimester

if you do not want to drink.....say you have a coke & vodka or whatever...or order tonic and say it is a G&T or V&T...

, if anyone pushes it, say you are on antibiotics or are the designated driver if don;t want to say you are pregnant,

i didnt know i was pregnant with first ds now aged 12 as my periods were so erratic, i carried on drinking quite heavily as i was a bit of a party animal. too be honest i had a couple of occasions with 2nd ds when i got a bit tiddly as well, i think theres loads of ladies out there who wouldnt admit having a few occassionaly when pregnant.

I didn't touch a drop for the first trimester but after that I've had the occasional beer or glass of wine.

Myth no.1 - you cannot drink in pregnancy.

Reality is that your placenta filters out most harmful toxins, so whilst it is not advisable to get bladdered, a couple of glasses of wine ain't gonna do no harm.

I have 1-2 glasses twice a week. Guidlines vary enormously depending on what country you come from. The Americans will imprison you for even sniffing alcohol but the French........ I say pretend you are French
But apprantly the French and Italians have a thing about women not getting unduly overweight during pregnancy.

If YOU want a drink then have one, but if it's just so people don't suspect I agree with Lulumama, say you're on antibiotics or something.

The medical advice in France is to drink NO alcohol during pregnancy now....

The heating was broke, Everyone was smoking and had been at the football match most of the afternoon so they were half drunk and I had smoke in my eyes. I had two half lagers and a glass of coke and went home.
It was a good nite tho. Just could see DP getting gradually more and more drunk which became annoying.

The alcohol free wine i tried is called "Eisberg". It says it is real wine with the alcohol removed. it actually has a taste of wine. I tried "Alcohol Fre" wine from ASDA but it just tasted like strong juice.

"Reality is that your placenta filters out most harmful toxins"

This is a bit misleading - the placenta does filter out some harmful toxins, but it doesn't filter out alcohol, which is why there's so much variance in opinion about how much is safe to drink in pregnancy.

alcohol crosses the placenta, it is not removed by the placenta

it is widely accepted that binge drinking in pregnancy is definitely damaging to the foetus..resulting in poor growth, premature birth and other issues.......

personally, after the first trimester, i have had the odd drink now and again, mostly with a meal....and certainly never ever more than 2 glasses at any one time........

that is what i felt comfortable with.....
