How sick are you being?

My sickness was caught early and I was put on avomine (brand name of promethazine) and it worked wonders! I took one before bed and one at lunch time and they kept the sickness at bay all day. It did make me awfully drowsy in the afternoons though. I did try cyclizine for a week, which I think most drs prescribe, and I felt very spaced out and zombie like and not at all like me. I asked to be taken off it as it was horrible. At least with avomine I was just sleepy not stoned!

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon x

I have had hyperemisis every pregnancy - hospitalised everytime. The only thing that worked for me is buccastem. Tbh they might not give you any meds until it gets worse than that but im not sure x good luck op x

Are you snacking regularly? That helped the nausea for me. A plain biscuit or a salty cracker or something. And eating a snack just before bed is meant to help with morning nausea. Also eat something before or as soon as you get up. Don't shower/dress first, eat!! I found I needed to snack every hour, 2 at most. How many weeks are you? I had 24hour nausea from week 6 until 13 when suddenly I started vomiting 8 times a day and couldn't keep anything down. A week of that and I saught help. I was taking the avomine for about 4 weeks then started weaning myself down from 2 a day to one a day to see if the sickness was going. By 22/23 weeks I was off them totally and nausea free :-) I'm now 30 weeks and getting quite nauseous again which is not uncommon in 3rd trimester as stomach is getting squished by baby and I feel sicker when tired.

Anyway, try the snacking first for a week. The GP might not give you anything unless the nausea is stopping you from doing daily tasks.

I've been given avomine. The sickness is stopping me from doing day to day stuff. So will try this. It's taken the edge off but I still think I can stomach much food

Great! Have you been told to take one before bed? This stops the drowsiness in the daytime but I found the effects ran out before the next evenings dose. This was mainly because my sickness was worse in the afternoons and evening. Hence I started taking the 2nd at lunch time. You might be alright with just the one evening dose of you're poorliest in the morning. I'd be interested to know how you get on, keep me posted?

I took one this afternoon and fell asleep on the sofa for 2 hours haha. I've taken one before bed as well. My sickness is worse at night and in the mornings. Does it stop the nausea when it comes to certain smells too? The the smell of my kitchen in the morning makes me sick and there's nothing in there that really smells. It's like my whole house stinks right now but I just think it's my over sensitive nose x

I'm sick as soon as I wake up so I'm scared to eat as I know I will be sick and If I'm honest it throws me into a panic. I hate being sick, I mean no one enjoys it but I feel a panic attack coming on beforehand x

Aww you poor thing, I had a vom phobia too before getting morning sickness. My tip was taking a glass of water in with me and drinking sips between hurls to dilute it! Gross I knew but liquid was better than lumps! I always felt like crying after I hated it so much :-( hopefully your puking days are over with the pills anyway :-)

Give the pills a chance though. See how long last night's lasts you. The sensitive nose thing seems to wear off as you go further into your pregnancy, or you get used to it. Ive not noticed smells for ages now :-)

Avomine worked wonders for me (I also have a vomiting phobia), specifically for the stomach-churning queasy type of sickness. General low level nausea I use Prochlorperazine. Good luck!

The avomine is working. The nurse seemed a bit confused that I was taking 2 though. I told her they don't work otherwise and she didn't say I couldn't but said oh it says take one at bedtime on the presciption. I'm not going to overdose am I? Taking one at lunch and one at bed

The Dr told me just to take one at bedtime but as it wasn't working I called my midwives and they said I could take up to 3 a day! So I fiddled with the dose and worked out the lunch and bedtime thing. Told my GP when I went back for more and she didn't query what I'd done.

Glad you're feeling better and they are working for you :-) enjoy eating again :-)

Avomine has helped for me. The nausea in the mornings is pretty much gone and I can now eat some toast! Still very sick every few days rather randomly. I'm 16 weeks so had hoped it would have passed. I feel sick in the evenings but not worth the drowsiness for me. It's normally only a wave that passes after about 15 minutes.
