Great experience with Miss Eleni Mavrides under not so great circumstances...

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share my experience with anyone who might be looking for a brilliant obstetrician/ gynaecologist working in central London.
I met Miss Mavrides under the unfortunate circumstances of needing an ERPC for a missed miscarriage this weekend. It was actually by chance that she was my consultant--the consultant who I was scheduled to see had an emergency situation that prevented her attendance and as a result Miss Mavrides was called in as her replacement.
In addition to being highly recommended by her colleages as being an excellent surgeon who is highly skilled, her bedside manner is wonderful and better than any other obstetrician/gynaecologist I have ever met. She is direct and straight-shooting but a loving and compassionate way, and upon meeting her you are instantly put to ease and made to feel that she is someone you can trust. She explains things in a way that are easy to understand, and unlike many other doctors I have come across in central London, she is extremely approachable and makes you feel like like no worry or question is too small or unimportant. I was extremely grateful for the sensitivity she showed me and her willingness to take all the time I needed to answer my questions and get me to a point where I felt ready to proceed with the surgery.
Because I hadn't experienced any signs of miscarriage (no bleeding, no cramping, and still feeling pregnant), I had an irrational fear/hope that maybe the sonographer I had previously seen had made a mistake, maybe the baby was actually alive. I realized these were irrational thoughts but upon explaining them to her, she happily agreed to do a final scan in theatre before performing the procedure, just to put my mind at ease. This was so greatly appreciated by me as it really gave me needed reassurance and acknowledgement of what I was feeling. And this was all after I was told by the consultant who I was originally scheduled to have the procedure done the only way that would be possible is if I were to schedule a separate appointment with her office on another day, pushing the procedure to later in the week and creating even more of a logistical nightmare as I tried to add yet another last minute appointment to an already jam packed schedule.

Anyway, I'd like to highly recommend Eleni Mavrides for anyone looking for a great OB/GYN--I really couldn't have had a better experience given such an upsetting situation. And my hope is that next time I have an appointment with her it will be under much better circumstances :)

Funny this recommendation just this week as this article is published where it is confirmed that the delay in proceedings under Mevrides' watch caused the death of this baby. Normally wouldn't go by Daily Mail but this I would want to know if I were considering this obgyn..

I would like to echo the positive feedback - Miss Mavrides is amazing! She is incredibly thoughtful, caring and most importantly SAFE! She helped deliver our son into this world safely and memorably for all the right reasons. I had induction at the Portland and she monitored how labour progressed from very early on. My contractions failed to progress further even with induction (due to the size of the baby) and I had emergency C section. I felt that Miss Mavrides gave us all the information we needed swiftly, whilst being very reassuring and safe at all times. My husband felt he was kept in the loop as she constantly communicated with him as well as me, which helped both of us stay very calm - we remember all the beautiful details of the birth. Her presence and communications helped me stay very focuses and calm during the whole experience. Furthermore, following the surgery she kept checking up on us very frequently to make sure that the baby and I were ok. She is one of the best healthcare professionals I've ever met and a very caring person. I'd highly recommend her and we shall certainly be using her in the future.

Ms Mavrides is unresponsible and not focused on the patient. She did not do procedure she should do as apparently there were problems but I was told later that MRI scan did not ahow any risk. She did not bother to look my MRI before the operation so she forgot to take one fibroid out! I never seen anything like that! I am shocked!

I recently saw Ms. Mavrides at the Royal Free. She was very rushed, rude, and unsympathetic. It's not how a doctor should be, let alone a specialist. I waited 3 months for gynae specialist appointment, and was seen in less than 6 minutes. Do not recommend her.

I have to now ask my GP to recommend me to another specialist, and unfortunately wait another 3 months!

Hi. If anyone else has had surgery with Dr. Mavrides, please provide more reviews.
I am thinking of having her for a key whole for surgery for my fibroid.

Thank you!

I had my uterine polyp removed and would highly recommend. She is a good Dr. and kniws what she is talking about.Someone commented that their appointment was rushed, I would say she is very busy because she is great and highly experienced and efficient with her time.

@LittleMissSunshiner sorry to hear about your experience. What surgery did you have and what injury did it cause?
Have you written to PALs at the hospital? Which hospital was it?
Have you gotten legal rep?

@Delectable

I've asked admin to delete my above post as I realise it's completely inappropriate to comment on my current surgeon. Things have been very difficult but it's not been any of her fault.

I was injured during a non sedated, non pain managed, zero anaesthetic hysteroscopy at the UCLH last July 2022.

The surgeon was inexperienced had no idea what she was doing - this was very clear on many many grounds. Also the type of surgery (non sedated hysteroscopy) was not appropriate for the task at hand - to remove a very large polyp.

During the procedure it became clear the surgeon didn't know what she was doing and had also lost control of the equipment and what she was doing - kept abrasively asking the saline tech for more saline as she 'couldn't see' and then during all the rummage around I could feel inside me I felt the most horrific searing stabbing and tugging pain that then became 10 / 10 pain as I felt myself being stabbed as if by a red hot poker up and into my left flank and below my ribs. I went into shock and couldn't breathe, my uterus started involuntarily contracting, the chaperone called the whole thing off. The polyp was not removed. I believe she was cutting into and trying to 'pull' on a part of my uterine wall by mistake.

I was immediately left with an horrific numb pain running around my left flank, pouring with vaginal bleeding, huge amount of blood in my urine and could no longer feel any nerve sensation in my urethra or when needing to urinate so I was losing control of my bladder all the time. I also acquired an upper left side ureter / kidney infection 'klebsiella' that I've never had before and is apparently known for being hospital acquired from instruments.

I was refused assistance by UCLH A&E and Urgent Care Gynae as they were informed by the clinician in question that the procedure was 'successful' and went 'smoothly' with no issue.

I am clearly aware that my uterus was punctured and my left ureter hit - I know this as I felt it and it was plainly obvious afterwards. I now have repeat internal infections and scarring and adhesions in the exact same area that were not there when I was fully scanned and checked for any endometriosis only days before the procedure. My left ovary, left ureter, left colon, and upper left outside of my uterus are now all connected together with scar tissue.

I had to change hospitals which took time as I had no support from my GP due to the lies from this clinician. Scans at the second hospital proven what I'd said and I had an urgent general anaesthetic procedure, 1 hr 45 mins, to remove the polyp and do 'something' that the surgeon who did it refuses point blank to comment on.

I've been bleeding every day for 17 months now and am in chronic pain barely able to walk and cannot do steps without a struggle. I've lost my health and fitness and piled on weight as I keep eating healthily (not too much) but because I can barely move. The NHS have tried to pass the severity of this situation off as Stage 4/5 Endometriosis in the area where I felt stabbed - I strangely have no endo anywhere else. However, when I pointed out that I will be waiting to see the histology and cell definitions of this tissue, it was admitted to me that they don't think it's endometriosis at all.

I'm waiting on a huge surgery now, was supposed to be last Weds, should happen next weds.

I have representation to support me with taking action on this issue.

Need to say the gynae who injured me, then lied about it and mounted a cover up, was initials JF at the UCLH and absolutely not the person whose name is in the title of this thread. I will be pushing what happened to me to the maximum possible level of publicity so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, I just gotta get thru major surgery first.

@LittleMissSunshiner sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds traumatic and horrendous!

I hope your surgery goes well and absolutely speak about your experience so there is a thorough investigation and change.
