Bleeding 38 weeks

Hello

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and have just had some blood on the toilet paper when I wiped. Not a lot but it's freaked me out as I've had no bleeding at all this pregnancy. It's my second child as well so should know what to do but I don't.

This pregnancy came as a surprise after years of infertility and miscarriages and I feel oddly paralysed with fear that something will go wrong at the birth. I've been very emotional the last couple of days.

Baby is moving and feels very low but I've not got any pain. With DS1 I had very obvious contractions that
coincided with a very obvious show.

Should I just see what develops or call someone to be checked?

I'd call the labour ward. They will probably want you to go in. At 38 weeks I'd take your hospital bag too.

Hey, didn't want to read and run, I'm sure it's fine, you might just be about to have a baby! I'd give your maternity unit a call, they'll know the questions to ask to distinguish whether it's anything to worry about. All the best x

Why not call your midwife/labour ward for advice? Brew

Scarydinosaurs · 05/09/2015 07:59

Call. They will tell you to put a pad on and call back in an hour. Sit and give yourself a rest, and lots of Brew.

I had this at 36 weeks and really scared myself, and it was fine. But I went in for monitoring and had an internal where they could see where I was bleeding from. DD2 arrived four weeks later with no problems.

Call the labour ward for some advice - at 38 weeks with dc2, could very well be light show starting off labour. Probably nothing to worry about, but best to call for some reassurance. If movements reduce or you have any sharp stabbing pains, don't be fobbed off, and pop up to be monitored.

Most likely though that you're just starting off. Good luck. Flowers

Call someone to be checked.

I would imagine its baby's head pushing low down which has caused irritation to your cervix, as that's what happened to me a few weeks ago. If it's brown blood that means it's old stuff getting out your body, if it's red may be something else but call them regardless.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 05/09/2015 08:01

My show was bloody could it be that? Best call the ward. Let us know how you get on :)

worriedmum100 · 05/09/2015 08:29

Thank you so much everyone. I've put a pad on and there's been no more blood. I'll ring labour ward for advice. It didn't look like the show I had with DS1 which was very bloody and mucousy. This looked more like traces of blood in heavy discharge and I've had the discharge for a while now.

What have the Labour ward said?

Dixiechick17 · 05/09/2015 09:01

my show that I had 18 hours before mt waters broke were a heavy discharge with traces of blood, so could be that. Give LW a call and see what they advise.

worriedmum100 · 05/09/2015 09:09

Labour ward have said it sounds like it could be the beginnings of something but to just put a pad on keep an eye on it and phone them back if there are any developments. Baby feels very low. Walking like John Wayne!

I'm with the others who think it's your show, but I agree to call the labour ward and find out. Could be the arrival of your lovely baby.

Let us know how you get on?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 05/09/2015 09:14

Hopefully things will start moving soon! I had my DS within 24 hours of my show Smile

worriedmum100 · 05/09/2015 10:07

I'll update if it gets exciting!

How's things?

worriedmum100 · 06/09/2015 08:52

Nothing seems to have come of it really. No more blood but lots of braxton hicks and period type pain yesterday. Baby still squirming but probably a bit less than usual. Still feels very low. Perhaps this one will be a slow burner.

DS was pretty much one minute nothing the next -oh here are some contractions that really bloody hurt and here is a very obvious show -off to.hospital!
