Runny eggs

Has anyone eaten runny eggs during pregnancy? I'm getting a big craving right now for runny poached or fried eggs. I don't have them totally runny. Some of the yolk is always soft set when I take them out. I don't know what the current advice is for runny eggs. Seems very contradictory on the Internet.

I eat them almost weekly, they are hot all the way through but quite dippy! I take the guidelines with a pinch of salt really!

Yes, I have runny poached eggs. I reckon as long as they're stamped and fresh they're ok. Plus I was told that salmonella is the danger from eggs, but that doesn't harm the baby, only makes the mother feel sick.

Yep. And raw (in cake mix) you stand more chance of getting salmonella by eating off a plate near to where you cooked chicken than by partially cooked lion stamped eggs (which aren't off).

I think like OP said as long as they're Lion stamped and within date you're fine. I can't talk though I chickened (Wink) out the other day... I was craving runny boiled eggs and I managed to boil them so hard they crumbled!!! I asked my friend who had just given birth and she said the only thing she consciously avoided was pate. She said she had runny eggs a lot. I'll prob end up having some in the next few days!

I really miss runny eggs. I debated it yesterday but eggs in the fridge were too close to the best before date so I chickened out!!

If they're lion stamped it's absolutely fine. I've been eating dippy eggs the entire 34 weeks of my pregnancy. So far, so good.

My midwife told me they're fine as long as they don't resemble bogeys or snot.

Yes, fresh, lion marked eggs. NHS says no but I'm confident it's ok for me - one of those things you have to make your own judgement on. I still like the bowl when making a cake :)

Salmonella poisoning can affect the baby as well as the mother...lion stamped are fine because that means the hens have been vaccinated against salmonella

Midwife said they are fine as long as lion stamped. I've eaten them throughout my pregnancy, in fact just ate one this evening. I'm 37 weeks

Goodness I'd hope I wouldn't eat one that resembled bogeys or snot anyway. Pregnant or not! I think I might go and buy some really fresh eggs tomorrow then and have a nice egg sandwich. Mmm yummy!!

I think they are due to change the NHS guidelines soon on the subject. Yay

Do it. As long as they're lion stamped you'll be fine.

I ate them all the way through both pregnancies as my understanding is that salmonella is only a risk to the mother not the baby directly. Not a medical professional though!

Yep yep yep, I've eaten cake mix quite a few times and lots of carbonaras.

Heavenscent86 · 01/09/2015 21:39

Hmmm I wouldn't mind eating cake mix right now. Sounds quite tempting.

The egg gets cooked in carbonara doesn't it, the hot pasta gently cooks the egg

Well it depends how long you stir it in, I figured it's still technically "runny".

I just ate a runny egg. It were LOVELY

I ate two last night.
I've eaten runny eggs all my life and never been ill. I think it's over the top, hard eggs are horrible anyway

They really are. Eggs have to be slightly runny. The eggs I have in the fridge are dated 10th September. Hopefully they're still in date enough to eat runny Smile

The ones I ate came from the farm down the road... fresh as anything, but not lion stamped. I'm fine. Been eating them for years!

I eat raw cake mix all the time (I like baking and can't resist fingering the bowl Wink) and I haven't been sick yet!

I've actually developed a real fancy for hard boiled eggs since preggers (with mayonnaise and a dash of paprika) whereas I used to prefer them runny. Ah well...

I guess if you're prone to food poisoning generally you should steer clear.
