Is it safe to buy vitamins off Amazon?

I'm running low on my prenatal DHA (omega 3) I'm taking and was about to reorder from Amazon, when my mum stopped me saying 'How are you not scared buying supplements from Amazon, they could be fake and dangerous!' That made me panic, google, find out it can really be unsafe and panic even more... I have since contacted the manufacturer themselves (in US) and ordered from them, but feeling no better... What are your thoughts? Would you buy supplements from Amazon and do you think it's safe? Many thanks!

I have bought supplements from Amazon in the past, but not pregnancy ones. To be honest, why bother, you can get really good deals for them in the supermarkets, and then you don't have to worry.

I usually get mine from boots as they've nearly always got 3 for 2 on vitamins. If I'm clever I can use some points vouchers too so it's definitely much cheaper than elsewhere.

I've never heard such a concern before. I've bought plenty of vitamins on Amazon and I'm still standing and still pregnant with a healthy baby.

Normally I buy everything from boots or holland and Barrett, but this particular one is American brand I've been recommended, so not available at UK retailers..

Newbian, nor have I, but mum made me wonder! The manufacturers themselves told me on the phone yesterday that indeed there's plenty of counterfeit stuff on Amazon (especially make up they said), but fortunately prenatal vitamins are apparently not as easy to fake, so they are hardly ever faked.

What's the brand bunny85? I'm American and was just over there visiting and shopping for baby stuff. I can tell you if I've heard of it.

I will be a bit cautious buying any tablets online ( that's just my opinion) you can get vitamin tablets everywhere even home and bargain or Aldo say the least or you can order fro super drug / boots online get them delivered at home. Just be safe :-)

Sounds like complete paranoia to me, honestly. I Googled "fake vitamins Amazon" and haven't seen a single reputable source on the first two pages with evidence that this is a widespread problem.

Newbian, the name is 'Nordic Naturals' Prenatal DHA. Let me know if you've heard of them.

Cheshire, that's just what my mum thinks too. I'll try and avoid buying them from amazon for future, I just didn't know how else to get hold of them from US.

I've ordered all my pregnacare vitamins from Amazon and am now 37 weeks pregnant and doing absolutely fine! Can't see the problem myself but then I haven't got reason to.

I've seen it at Whole Foods. Conveniently they have a list of Amazon sellers who aren't authorized on their website. Hopefully you bought from a good one!

Mine just seem to be sold by Amazon themselves and not a secondary seller.

Newbian, thanks for the link, that was extremely helpful. Thank goodness the name of the retailer I bought from is not on the list. For future will always buy from them directly though...

Coveredinsnot, it's the best! That I'm sure is safe.
