Hello! Started TCC two months ago and today had a positive pregnancy test. Based on last period, think I am 4 1/2 weeks!
Keep going between anxious and excited at the moment.
Not had too many symptoms, sore boobs but nothing too bad, slightly queasy but not too bad (fingers crossed it stays this way!) and not too tired.
Just wanted some advice on my next steps! Is it a case of get a docs appointment now, or should I wait? Also - anything else I need to think about at this point?
Thanks so much! What a day!

3 months prego here :)

Tell your docs, they'll probably advise you how to self-refer to the midwives, who will see you around 8 weeks pregnant. Start taking folic acid if you aren't already, and just check out the (fairly short) list of what you're not allowed to eat. Good luck!

Congratulations. Where I am you don't need to see the GP, you self refer to the midwife. I had my booking appointment at 8weeks.

Hiya congratulations what a lovely time :-) as others said contact gp, also make sure you get pregnancy supplements (I use pregnacare) or ask midwife about them and check what you can and can't eat and drink. At your stage I also read a book Expecting better which I found useful x

Hi Sunny!

I'm in exactly the same position as you-4.5 weeks I reckon. I called today and made an appointment with the midwife for tomorrow. A bit eager I know but I didn't know what was the right thing to do and the receptionist didn't ask me how long along I am. Are you feeling excited?! I am so excited I can barely think if anything else. I just hope i maintain the pregnancy. It's tough not being able to tell everyone!

Hi Sunnybright and BeckyJW. I'm in the same boat. Did a test on the 31st of July and it was positive. Booked to see the doctor the next day and he talked about do's and don'ts and did my blood pressure but nothing more really. He said for me to ring when I get to around 8 weeks to make an appointment with the midwife. I've been taking all the right vitamisn since May and have now switched to pregnancy vitamins which seem to be all in one. Super excited but daunted as well as I'm a bit of a control freak and like to know what's going on!!!! Hopefully, we'll all learn as we g along together!

Hi. Can I join you ladies? I'm 7 weeks with a surprise baby (my youngest is 7) I have had lots of bloating and incredible tiredness and some nausea but luckily no sickness. I'm off to the gp this afternoon.

Hi Mecuryrising,

Be nice to keep in touch with ladies at similar stages :)

Good luck at gp! Feel very similar with bloating and tiredness, reflux too (gaviscon is my friend already!)

Hi ladies,

May I join you? I got my bfp on Friday and went to the GP yesterday. I'm 5 weeks today. He said that I should self refer to the hospital, so sent off the forms last night. They said it will take 7-10 working days for them to get back to me, so I suppose it's just a waiting game!

I'm so bloated all the time too, my bbs are sore and have been having period like cramps for the past 6 days.

Hi pickle,
I've been referred by my doctor to the early pregnancy unit for an early scan due to my cramping. He said I should wait until at least 6 weeks though as there would be no heartbeat before then x

Hello Ladies, hope I can join the gang too. Got my BFP this morning. Reckon I'm about 4 weeks if the calculator is right but CB test says 2-3 weeks.

This will be my second baby and my first is nearly 4. Hubby and I are excited but I'm now starting to think about everything that needs to happen in the next few weeks before we can say we are out of the woods.

Right now I just have the crampy feelings in my lower pelvic area, feeling very tired as the day progresses and generally a bit queasy. I suffered from morning sickness in my first pregnancy except it was 'early/late afternoon sickness' which means my commute home is going to be fun for a while.

This all just feels so new to me despite being through it before. I actually feel a bit nervous about going through it all again four years after my first.

Hope all you ladies are enjoying your BFP.

Hi all its so nice to be part of this conversation and to read your experiences! This is my first pregnancy and am very uninformed about it all. I have got no symptoms apart from a bit of cramping. I have been feeling really hungry too but suspect that's just psychological! I went to the midwife yesterday and decided on the hospital I would want to go with and she took my weight height and blood pressure and has referred me on to the hospital for my 'proper' appointment.

A few questions for you:

  1. Have you to anyone apart from your partner? I am finding the secrecy really hard.
  2. Are you continuing to exercise as you have done? I like going to the gym but feel a bit concerned what level of cardio I should be doing.
  3. Do you plan on getting early scans?

Thanks,

Becky

So I went to the gp who has said I am approximately 6 + 6. He took my blood pressure and requested a dating scan. I have made an appointment to see the midwife on Friday. I actually felt ridiculously nervous, which is silly as this is my 3rd pregnancy. I think because this baby was unplanned I felt worried about being judged but it was fine.

Hi Becky,

How far along are you? Is also my first and I feel very lost as have no idea really what I should and shouldn't be doing and what feelings are normal and what aren't!

I spoke to my gp receptionist (as you now have to saw briefly what calling about) and they said I need to speak to Midwife, so am booked in for 3 weeks time and that's it! Nobody has said anything or given me any knowledge, I have picked up the maternity pack but would really like to talk it through with doc etc... I also have high blood pressure/an ongoing minor heart issue and am suprised that I haven't had to go in? But then didn't get to speak to my doc so don't know if I should be?

I've told my parents and sister and no one else yet, but can't really hide it from them as very close and mum had pretty much guessed! Am still running a couple of times a week and hope too until body won't let me, but already feeling more difficult!

I'd like to get an early scan as feel quite anxious to know it's all ok, how about you??

Pickle x

Hi Mecuryrising,

Sounds like it went ok for you :) fingers crossed for your scan!!

Everyone seems to be seeing their midwives quite quickly, is that the norm??

Hi pickle!

I am exactly the same as you- 5 weeks yesterday!

I think give your doc another ring and explain the blood pressure and heart issue and that you are concerned that maybe you'd benefit from earlier advice. I would if I were you.

I am still doing my gym classes but they are quite high intensity so I'm considering stopping and doing alternatives. On the other hand I don't want to be precious and/or obsessive on the do's and don't s of pregnancy.
Hope everyone is getting on well,

Becky

Hi pickle.
I am seeing the midwife on Friday because otherwise there was not an appointment until the end of August and the gps receptionist thought this would be too late.

It isn't ideal though as my appointment is at 1 and my brother is getting married at 2 so it will be a mad dash from my appointment to the church!

I have also been thinking about exercise and am going to start swimming next week. Hopefully it will tone my arms and legs and strengthen my back. I gained a lot of weight in my previous pregnancies and don't want to get as big this time.

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind another person coming in. I am 7 weeks and 4 days.

I self referred to the hospital for my midwife/scan but haven't heard anything at all. Does anyone know how they usually contact you? Is it a call or a letter?

I have stopped my exercise as I was doing high intensity circuit training and have been told it is not a good idea to get really hot in your first trimester by the instructor. She suggested I take up yoga, swimming, step class and hiking! She said no bodypump (weights) as your joints will be softened by the pregnancy hormones in prep for everything moving around and you could hurt yourself. Whatever you do, it's really important you let the gym instructor know you are pg so they can make sure you are safe and stay hydrated. It is definitely recommended everywhere that we still do some exercise though for lots of reasons!

Hope that helps some of you, she definitely gave me a lot of info!

Crawled into bed at 8:45 last night, was all I could manage and barely slept for being uncomfortable/extremely sore boobs! ((which seem to have doubled in size this week - guess I'm going to buying lots of bras!!))

hope it's all going well for everyone

Hi all can I join too? Smile I think I'm around 4 weeks preg with our first baby. Super anxious at the mo as my SIL suffered a MC at 8 weeks last weekend and my partners sister has had 3 previous MC Sad I couldn't get a GP appt until next week but have begun taking folic acid. I've seen a few posts on here about GPs checking HCG levels, has that happened for you all? I'm totally fixated on whether my levels will have risen like they should Confused

Hi Becca
Congrats! I haven't had my HCG checked but maybe that's because they saw the pregnancy in my uterus at 4 weeks when I was having an internal scan for something else. The GP just took me through some basics and made the referral, that was it. It seems to be a pretty lonely time until you get your booking appointment and 12 week scan.

I'm coming up to 8 weeks now and am so nervous. I can't wait to actually start enjoying this pregnancy but won't let myself as I am terrified of mc. Maybe is is just these forums but it feels like absolutely everyone has had at least one mc!

Congrats all! I found out this morning I'm pregnant with #3. Period not due for a few more days, but I knew early with my previous two pregnancies, so feeling mildly ok...will feel a bit more confident once period due date has past though!
