Did your EDD from dating scan differ wildly from your LMP date?

My first day of last period was 28th October, I had light spotting on November 13th and 14th and a positive pregnancy test on 6th of December. So, on my booking appointment, the midwife put my EDD at 6th of August...which was what I had also worked out from my dates.

Fast forward to January and my 12 week scan..."No, Mrs Loolah, you are 9 weeks +6, not 11 weeks + 6 and your due date is August 20th."
That's a full fortnight. I'd already had my BFP by the time they reckon I'd have implated.

Since 20 weeks, due to a kidney problem with bubs, I've been having monthly growth scans...and each one baby haas been measuring just shy of 2 weeks ahead of where I supposedly am...up to the last one at 35 weeks, where all his measurement had him at 37 weeks...

So, this has strengthened my suspicion that my original date of 6th of August is my actual due date....Is this just wishful thinking on my part or has anyone else had similar experience of the dates being so off and their baby coming closer to the LMP predicted due date than the dating scan EDD?

Yes, although not by as much. With my DD my dating scan put me 8 days earlier than I "should" have been. While it didn't make a vast difference during the pregnancy, other than later scans showing a "big" baby, I gave birth at "36+5", making my DD officially premature by two days and it meant they made us stay in hospital for 5 days despite there being nothing wrong with either of us. She was over 7lb when she was born too! I'm pretty certain we would have got home earlier if she hasn't been classed as pre-term.

No harm done ultimately,(and I'm pleased they take prematurity so seriously!) just annoying at the time.

Lmp puts my due date at the 8th August. 12 week scan moved me forward to the 30th July. I'm now overdue and I expect labour will not start until the 10th least.

Luciferbox that'll put you ahead for induction if no movement before then.

Yep, 3rd DC. By my LMP I should be due about 26th August but at my 12 week scan I was only 10 weeks so they shifted my EDD to 8th September. I'm measuring where I should be by their dates but I'm sorry of hoping that my dates are correct as I'm really struggling this time. My only concern is that I'm planning a home birth so if I'm too early by there dates this could be off the cards

My DSis had this. I can't remember the exact details but...

At her 12 week scan they said she was 9 weeks. She was horrified that she'd told her family at 4 weeks, and confused that she'd managed to have a BFP before conception.

She worked up to 38 weeks according to her new EDD and had him after only a couple of days leave. He had the look of an overdue baby.

We're pretty sure she worked beyond her actual due date and that he was overdue.

They're all healthy and happy now, though.

I think there's more variation in early development than is credited. And I think ultrasound measurements are more fallible than we think too. But that's just my thoughts.

Mine moved forward by 8 days so I went from 12+4 to 13+5 in half an hour!

Dd was born 4 days early (by new dates) and weighed over 8 pounds! Can you imagine if I'd gone overdue on the old dates! It would have been another 24 days before they induced! (Eye watering emoticon needed here!) So I would count my new dates as correct.

However, my moving dates do makes sense because I always did have very short cycles. (Of the 20 - 24 day range.) I'd forgotten because I'd been on the pill for years and then she was conceived second cycle. But someone with a 20 day cycle does ovulate on about day 6.

Ds also moved by a few days and then was over 8 pounds at 5 days early.

One weird thing for me was that dd was supposed to be an April baby and I'd signed up to all these April baby things and then my dates changed and suddenly I was having a March baby!

With ds he was originally an early June baby but I expected movement so I always referred to him mentally as a May baby and post scan (and in reality) he was!

Yes, I had a positive test on 1st Jan LMP was 3rd December making EDD 10th September. Scan gave me EDD as 4th October which suggested that I wasn't even pregnant when I had positive pregnancy test Hmm Ds was born on 15th September, midwife thought he was slightly overdue rather than 37 weeks as new EDD suggested so more in keeping with LMP rather than dating scan.

I measured "small" at 12 weeks and they knocked back my due date by almost 2 weeks. My daughter was born at 38 weeks Hmm.

And as above (insanity) I was asked if she was overdue as she peeled like a snake!

I was given an EDD of 30th October, dating scan put me at 21st October. Not a huge amount, but it does mean that if I go past the 21st they'll be considering me overdue, when I may actually still be a week early!

Yes, they're an estimate at best.

The first dates they gave me had me conceiving a good ten days after ovulation (I was charting) and 9 days after I last had sex (so a miracle baby!) and just days before my BFP (miraculous again!).

They re-scanned a week later (not because I disagreed but because the baby was too small to measure for the triple test - they insisted I'd 'got my dates wrong' - Grr!) and within that week, changed their 'accurate dating scan' by 9 days. But they won't concede for a moment that they might not be correct. So annoying!

(You've hit a nerve here with me!!! :) )

I think mine has been 1 day off at every scan... I thought I would be due 3/10/15 but according to the scans its 4/10/15... Xx

It looks like your LMP was Nov 13th, not 28th of Oct. The EDD matches then.

They changed mine by 10 days, then told me I was measuring almost two weeks small for the rest of my pregnancy Hmm

Carrotpuff My last period was definitely 28th October and the spotting on 13th/14th Nov was literally a drop of brown (old) blood on my pants, not an actual period, more consistent with an ovulation bleed.

Yes this happened to me recently. LMP around 5th June, got a positive pregnancy test on 5th July.

This would put my EDD at 10th March I think.

At what I thought was 6 weeks I went for an early scan for various reasons and was told there was only a small pregnancy sac there with nothing in it. The sonographer basically implied it was a blighted ovum and so I had a scan booked for a week later to check the progress if any. She did say it was possible that I had ovulated late and therefore what she was seeing was more like a 5 week sac.

A week later (at what would have been 7 weeks by original dates) I was told there was an embryo with a heart beat and was measuring 5.3 days....EDD now 19th March.

It's possible I ovulated late but this doesn't explain the positive test as presumably it was too early for a positive at that point Confused

I am cheered to read that other people have been dated backwards (so far that they couldn't have 'tested positive' either!) - and that the pregnancies have gone on to be viable.

One theory I wondered about was whether it's possible I (you?!) ovulated (and conceived) twice... The first time (for the positive test) did not progress for whatever reason but the second one (that shows on the scans) did?! It seems unlikely I know, but I just can't get my head round the whole testing positive too early to fit with the dates.

My EDD from my LMP was July 6. My scan put me at June 26 - quite a difference. My intuition, and the birth of DS1 told me that that baby wasn't showing up until after July 6, and managed to persuade my OB (I'm in North America) to let me go until then. From June 30 I had scans every other day to make sure all was OK re fluid levels. Baby popped out like a rocket (less than two hours from first contraction to birth) on July 7.

Dating scan put me 2 days after my LMP. But as I have 30 day cycles this put me spot on where I thought I should be.

My edd from my lmp was 23/12/15 and from scan 28/01/16. Which is just impossible as means I would have got my bfp (from a blood test) before I even ovulated!!!!! It's causing me no end of problems planning maternity leave!!
