hi,

i am approx 4 weeks (last period was 17/10/06) and have had a brownish stringy discharge that is sometimes red, since last night. i went to a&e and they found that the hcg level is low. dr said that at 4 weeks it should be around 1000 but mine is 120. ive got to go back to the hospital in 48hrs to see if the level has doubled. this is my 1st pregnancy and i am really worried. has anyone else been in this situation? or has anyone got any advise that they could give me? thanks xxx

hi.dont;want to leave you unanswered.

doesn't sounds very promising, i'm afraid, the low HCG levels suggest that the pregnancy might not continue....

the only advice at this stage, as it is so early, is to rest if you can, and wait until you have your next blood test and see what has happened.

if the bleeding becomes much heavier or you are in a lot of pain you can go back to A&E.....

sorry to not be of more help....

hcg levels are notoriously difficult to predict, but 120 does sound pretty low, sadly. there are a few reasons why this could be, and as lulu says often the pregnancy might not persist. i'm glad that the hospital is doing serial hcg tests, as this can help them to diagnose if there is a problem.
have you been in any pain at all? promise me that if you have any pains you'll phone nhs direct straight away... you can't be too careful...
likewise if the bleeding gets worse you should also call them. i'm off to bed now but i'll come back to this thread and see how you are doing tomorrow, okay?
i do know how terrified you are right now, i have been there myself. take good care of yourself, don't take any chances if your condition changes. speak tomorrow, Hx

hi everyone, my nurse has just phoned me. my hcg count has gone from 141 to 226. nurse said that it doesnt always double and that it is a good sign. im probably not as far gone as what we thought. she has now classed it as a normal pregnancy. shes booked me in for a scan 20th dec. i know this might sound weird but i am looking forward to the morning sickness and tiredness. i am so happy. i know ive still got to be careful and get through the 1st 3 month. i can relax a bit more now. thank you everyone for your support. ill let you know how my december scan goes. xxx

I'm so pleased for you. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy. I know what you mean about looking forward to nausea, fatigue etc (though I have to admit at 15wks pregnant it's getting wearing!).

Congratulations.

My sister has a condition which means her hormones levels are very low at the start of pregnancy. She doesn't get a postive till about 10 weeks.
Its great that the levels have risen. Good luck...

hi - in fact that's only around 34 hours. they look for a doubling of hcg in 48 hours, so i think it's a positive sign

i'm not having mine tracked this time, but have done in previous pgs (i had an ectopic pg and 2 mcs)

good luck x
