Reduced Movement

I'm only 22+4 but baby is normally fairly active and feel it kicking quite a lot for most of day. However today I have only felt 1/2 very tiny slight movements and much softer than normal. I have had 1 proper bleed and 1 episode of spotting in last 2 weeks (not sure what causing it) so now baby movements are reduced I'm panicking! I have tried all the usual lying on side and cold drink tricks. Should I be worried? I tried calling midwife but couldn't get a reply.

Go straight to maternity triage at your hospital.

Call the midwife again, or call the delivery suite directly and ask where you should go to be checked over. No one will think you are being a nuisance. I went in for a check at a very similar time, and it was fine - no one made me feel silly or hysterical (I felt like it of course). I hope all is fine, and I'm sure it is, but please get checked today.

At that stage they are so small they can change position and hide very easily so don't worry if they aren't concerned. They might ask you in to listen for heartbeat, give them a call.

You need to call the antenatal day assessment unit probably, number should be on your notes.

Definitely call but also don't panic! I had this a lot around the same time and it always made me worried. Had bleeding too, they never found a cause but it stopped around 28ish weeks. Baby was always fine. I realised I felt her less when she was facing my back and must have been kicking the placenta along the back wall of my uterus. So very likely baby has just changed positions.

Thanks everyone. I tried midwife a couple of times but couldn't get hold of her but have felt a few kicks since so I'm less worried now. Will give her a ring in the morning if I still don't feel happy.

The same thing happened with my DS when I was a bit further along than you. Down a glass of iced water and see if that shocks your baby into moving was the advise I was given. I'd go to the hospital to be safe. I'm sure it'll be fine, try not to worry too much x

I have been suffering with reduced movements and the first time I went in, baby decided to start moving in triage & I was like oh jeez! So I have felt a little nervous to call since as I don't want to waste their time.

Yesterday was my 3rd time going in for reduced movements (baby basically moved once in morning then didn't move for whole day, I'm 35+6) so went back in. CTG machine shows that she's fine & moving but for some reason my body isn't registering it, they aren't sure why!

A lovely midwife, gave me a right rollicking, she said don't leave it, as soon as you are slightly worried, CALL! I am the type of person that goes, well there could be someone who really needs it, yesterday that person was me! I just need to see it more.

So ring, ring & ring that midwife/triage until you are happy :)
