Screening for Edward's and Patau's syndrome?

I'm confused - the literature I was given and the NHS website both suggest that I'd be sent an Edward's and a Patau's risk as well as a Down's risk after my 12 week scan/blood test - but I was just sent my Down's risk.

Brought it up with the midwife at my 16 week check-up and she didn't seem to know what I was talking about (I'd forgotten the specific names, so was just referring to "more rare but more serious genetic conditions than Down's").

Can anyone shed any light? - do they not test for these conditions in some parts of the country? I'm in London.

at your booking in appointment with your midwife they would have asked you what screening tests you wanted at the twelve week scan. if they didn't tick those boxes then you wouldn't have been screened. well that's how its done in my area.

I'm pretty sure those sorts of things they scan for at the 20 week scan. Edwards is picked up by poor brain development etc for example and they just don't always see that much early on. I could be wrong but I know someone who had to terminate because of Edwards and it was picked up at the 20 week scan. Very hard at that point but these tests aren't infallible.

Call the hospital and ask (number should be on your letter with the downs result). I think they usually screen for all three but I have not always had all three results in a letter despite the fact the screening had been done.

I've always had these results at same time as T21 (background risk much lower so so were the results).

At mine they screen for all 3 in the same test but only write to you with the Down's result. They'd call within a few days if they spotted anything high risk though, they wouldn't put that in a letter

I had my scan this afternoon.

At my hospital (London) they did the blood test and combined with the results of the scan they worked out the risk factor of Downs, Edwards and the 3rd one (p something). Depending on the individual risk factors of each (risk had to be high 1 in 100) then they offered the CVS fluid analysis. They do it this way as the risk of miscarriage is high with the CVS test.

Hi I'm in London and have had a pregnancy with Edwards syndrome. It wasn't picked up until the 20 week scan as his heart wasn't developed properly (the month before blood screening became introduced).
They do test for all three with the combined bloods and scan but will sometimes just write downs.
