Advice please - due date / how far along am I?

Hello

So, I removed my mirena in Feb of this year and then had a slight bleed a few days later. I started tracking period type activity as I've had hugely irregular and awful periods in the past and was told I would have trouble conceiving. Have been on the mirena for just under 8 years.

I had a period in the last week of March - fine. Then nothing. PMS type symptoms in April - negative test. Nothing in May - more pms style symptoms, but another negative test. In the last few weeks the symptoms have gotten far worse, and so I took a test yesterday. And guess what - a BFP! Confirmed today with test #2 as I'm neurotic.

So; have GP apt on Weds. But what now? Everything I've read suggests that they date your pregnancy from the date of your last period, but I took pregnancy tests in between that and now which have been negative - effectively I've missed periods in April and May which even accounting for a long cycle means I'm significantly further along than I would have assumed - circa 9 weeks. Did I just skip a period and then get pregnant thus missing May or did I miss those periods because I was pregnant already?

How will they date it in the GP surgery? I'm seeing the women's health / antenatal lead.

The waiting is killing me. I don't want to be told that I'm then going to have to wait to see a midwife for another appointment!

On the plus side- I tortured myself for months with the mirena horror stories but there is hope, even when you've been told you will have problems.

Help and insight much appreciated!

C xx

If you have irregular periods the likelihood is that you ovulated late (hence the earlier negative tests). In this situation they usually send you for an early dating scan so they can make sure you get your 12 week scan at the right time (especially if you want the nuchal screening test). Explain the situation to the Dr.
Congratulations!

Congratulations! Mine weren't as crazy as yours but I had irregular periods and had an early dating scan at my booking in appointment because I had no idea of my dates other than what the Clear Blue conception indicator told me (which actually was spot on). You could try that actually?

Yeah I agree with the ClearBlue digital one. I think it works up to 5weeks xx

This happened to me. Had the Mirena for 3 years.. Had it out to start trying for baby number two but my periods were really irregular.

At my first midwife appointment at 8 weeks. She did date it from my last period but my due date changed at my 12 week scan.

You can explain this to your doctor and midwife who can guide you. Your 12 week scan is often called the dating scan and they can tell you how far on you are. Obviously you may not necessarily be 12 weeks but good luck :)
