Estimating due date / how far along I am - help??

Hello

So, I removed my mirena in Feb of this year and then had a slight bleed a few days later. I started tracking period type activity as I've had hugely irregular and awful periods in the past and was told I would have trouble conceiving. Have been on the mirena for just under 8 years.

I had a period in the last week of March - fine. Then nothing. PMS type symptoms in April - negative test. Nothing in May - more pms style symptoms, but another negative test. In the last few weeks the symptoms have gotten far worse, and so I took a test yesterday. And guess what - a BFP! Confirmed today with test #2 as I'm neurotic.

So; have GP apt on Weds. But what now? Everything I've read suggests that they date your pregnancy from the date of your last period, but I took pregnancy tests in between that and now which have been negative - effectively I've missed periods in April and May which even accounting for a long cycle means I'm significantly further along than I would have assumed - circa 9 weeks. Did I just skip a period and then get pregnant thus missing May or did I miss those periods because I was pregnant already?

How will they date it in the GP surgery? I'm seeing the women's health / antenatal lead.

The waiting is killing me. I don't want to be told that I'm then going to have to wait to see a midwife for another appointment!

On the plus side- I tortured myself for months with the mirena horror stories but there is hope, even when you've been told you will have problems.

Help and insight much appreciated!

C xx

Well I'm pretty sneaky and wouldn't mention the bfn's.
You will be sent for a scan asap which will give you your date. Nobody can really tell you a date in your circumstances.
Massive congratulations!!Smile

Thank you!! I'm so excited - I am still in shock if honest, but both hubby and I are over the moon.

Ok - so do I go and say that I had no periods in May and April, but a period in March? Won't they just say that my date is from the March period then?

I would tell them the truth - the date of your last period, and the dates of the bfn. They will still send you for an early scan to determine how far along you are. Good luck!

Hi, I had exactly the same. Came off the pill in March and had a period then nothing since. Kept having symptoms so did 2 separate tests which were negative then ended up going to the docs to see what was going on and I got a bfp! Had a blood test done and docs appoint ment last Fri and she's had to go on the dates from my last period so just waiting for the scan appointment now to see what the dates really are!!

An update! Following a scare where I had some bleeding at the beginning of the week followed by a GP referral to the EPU and lots of tears; confirmation that I'm 7+3 days, all present and correct - saw baby bean and heard the heartbeat! Huge relief and so excited to know exactly how far along so I can start the countdown! Only told immediate family thus far. Xx
